https://vimeo.com/10621002 Rod Ellis on Task based teaching TBLT is compatible with what we know about language learning. A task-language teaching activity with a primary focus on meaning (info/opinion gap), that asks ss to select the language that they need/use their own L as opposed to exercises where ss are given the L to simply manipulate. It emphasizes meaning over form but it is also concerned form. Task are more intrinsically motivating than other activities, as learners pick out the L that they can use from the task they are given. A combination can be successful between task based teaching lesson and more traditional lessons. If you want to develop communicative competence, somewhere there needs to be TBT.
