ABSTRAK Manajemen cedera tulang rawan artikular merupakan salah satu masalah klinis yang paling menantang bagi ahli bidang orthopaedi. Tulang rawan artikular adalah jaringan ikat yang tidak tervaskularisasi sehingga tidak dapat beregenerasi. Teknik perbaikan cedera tulang rawan yang ada seperti autologius chondrocyte implatation (ACI), microfracture dan mosaicplasty, masih memiliki beberapa kekurangan yang mempengaruhi hasil klinis, menyebabkan morbiditas pada donor ataupun limited matrix production after cell expansion. Sehingga penting untuk mengembangkan teknik perbaikan tulang rawan alternatif dan efisien menggunakan rekayasa Jaringan atau Stem Cells yang diharapkan dapat mengurangi bergaimacam kekurangan yang terjadi. Dalam ulasan ini, kami merangkum tinjuan singkat tentang beberapa study lima tahun terakhir tentang peran stem cells dan Tissue Engineering untuk pengobatan cedera kartilago. Pertama-tama kami membahas tentang berbagai macam jenis sumber cell yang mampu berdifresisasi menjadi keturunan kondrogenik. Kami juga membahas tentang triad tissue engineering yaitu sel, biomaterial dan faktor lingkungan atau biologis yang menjadi syarat dalam rekayasa jaringan, kemudian kami juga membahas berbagaimacam jenis terapi Tissue Engineering pada kerusakan tulang rawan artikular.

Articular cartilage injury management is one of the most challenging clinical problems for orthopedic experts. Articular cartilage is a disvascularized connective tissue, so it cannot regenerate. The present techniques for repairing cartilage injuries such as autologyus chondrocyte implatation (ACI), microfracture and mosaicplasty, still have several deficiencies that affect clinical outcomes, leading to donor morbidity or limited matrix production after cell expansion. Therefore, it is important to develop efficient and alternative cartilage repair techniques using Tissue Engineering or Stem Cells expected to reduce the variety of occurring deficiencies. In this review, we summarize a brief review of the last five years of studies on the role of stem cells and tissue engineering for the treatment of cartilage injuries. First we discuss various types of cell sources that enable to differentiate into condrogenic derivation. We also discuss about triad tissue engineering, namely cells, biomaterials and environmental or biological factors that are requirement in tissue engineering. In addition, we discuss various types of Tissue Engineering therapy in damage to articular cartilage.
