JULY 26, 2009
I mentioned some of my heroes the other day in this column and since then, I have discovered that I am surrounded by heroes. Sometimes we fail to notice those who quietly and faithfully minister. There are many of these heroes in our church and community. I would like to mention one to you today. He is a hero that would never mention this and I am willing to accept that he is going to “chew” me out when he reads this. Bill Crawford who served as an active deacon in this church for many years, has also ministered to this congregation for the past 53 years by faithfully keeping the church’s Sunday School records every Sunday. Even more impressive than the length of time that Bill has kept the records is that in the length of time I have been here, he has never one time complained, grumbled, or griped to me about keeping the records or anything else. Remember, if you gripe about what you are doing, it can’t be a ministry. Galatians 6:9-10 reads, 9Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Thank you Bill for not growing weary of doing good, and for ministering to this congregation and others. Bill is just one example of someone who lives this scripture. If you know someone who faithfully lives out scripture, let them know that you have noticed and appreciate them, and let me know. I don’t know about you, but I like for my list of heroes to be as long as possible. Praying for you, John God Loves Us John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
DOXOLOGY OFFERTORY PRAYER TITHES & OFFERINGS
Hear God’s Call To Us Today Revelation 3:20 - Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
BENEDICTION And by faith, we’ll stand on your promises. And by faith, we’ll walk, as you walk with us. Speak, O Lord, ‘til your church is built and the earth is filled with your glory.
Hear God’s Promise To Us All John 1:12,13 - Yet to all who received him, he gave the right to become children of God - Children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

When we are converted, we are justified by God. Psalm 103:12 - as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. We enter into a relationship with God as an act of faith (there is nothing we can do to merit this relationship). Ephesians 2:8-9 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.
Faith is an act of trust and self abandonment when we commit ourselves (give our lives)to Christ. Matthew 16:24-26 - Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? Committing our lives to Christ is our own free decision. Romans 10:13 - Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. And As We Gather To Worship Hebrews 4:16 - Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Call to Action: Annual church meeting after worship service August 9 Mark your calendar for the annual church meeting after worship service on August 9. At this meeting we will elect a new Trustee and committees to lead our church and discuss other important church business. All church members 13 years of age or older are eligible to vote. Please take advantage of this opportunity and responsibility to participate in the business of our church. Under our bylaws a quorum of 25% of the voting members of the church is required for a valid vote – approximately 50 people – but decisions for the future of our church deserve to be made by a much greater number of members. You may cast your vote in person or by a written, signed proxy. A form of proxy will be available in the church narthex or at the church office for those who will not be able to attend the meeting. You also can email your proxy to the church office stating who you are authorizing to cast your vote or for whom you want to vote – be sure to include your name and phone number for verification. All proxies must be delivered to the church office before August 9 or given to the moderator on August 9 to be counted.
From the Lay Leadership Committee: Anyone interested in serving on a committee, please contact JoAnn Heath at 254-932-6192 or Mamie Johnston at 254-486-2628 by August 1 in preparation for the annual meeting on August 9.
