You must CITE EVIDENCE from the text to support your response. Be sure to include the title(s) and author(s) in your answer. You may use your annotations. Prompt: So far in Persepolis, we have seen how Marjane, her family, and the people of Iran have been affected by the Iranian Cultural Revolution, the Iraqi invasion of Iran, and other social influences and experiences. In the text, how do social influences and experiences shape the protagonist's attitude towards herself? (Type your response in the space below).

In Persepolis 12 year old Marjane was hanging out with 14 year olds and disliked herself for not being mature. This is shown on page 112 when Marjane's friends were flirting with boys and she says says “Follow the others, I mean. I was too young to interest them.”. She knows boys are interested in women more their age and disliked how she wasn’t mature and older. She also shows herself wanting to be mature when she stole a cigarette from her uncle and smoked it to get rid of her immature self. This is shown on page 117 when Marjane says “With this first cigarette, I kissed childhood goodbye.”. All of these events made Marjane hate her childish self, and do rash actions to become “Mature”.
