Prompt: So far in Persepolis, we have seen how Marjane, her family, and the people of Iran have been affected by the Iranian Cultural Revolution, the Iraqi invasion of Iran, and other social influences and experiences. In the text, how do social influences and experiences shape the protagonist's attitude towards herself? (Type your response in the space below).

In Persepolis Marjane learning about the people who are imprisoned, tortured, or killed by the government helps to shape her attitude towards herself because she starts questioning herself and what she believes in. When she finds out that her grandpa got tortured Marjane sits in the bathtub for a long time so she can see how being tortured feels, “that night i stayed a very long time in the bath. I wanted to know what it felt like to be in a cell filled with water.” this shows that marjane wanted to know how her grandpa felt and that she cares alot about her family. she wants to know and feel what people went through and she started questioning herself ,she wasn't worried about herself anymore she was worried about other people. Later in the story her uncle anoosh got executed by the government, “that was my last meeting with my beloved anoosh…” “Get out!”. This shows that marjane has lost faith in god because her uncle who she loved so much got killed. she is starting to question her beliefs and she is starting to feel differently about what she has always believed in. Overall this shows that the government imprisoning, torturing, and killing people makes marjane question herself and everything she believes in.
