Homes, Renovations & Real Estate

How To Decorate Your Dinner Table in a way to impress your guests hen you invite guests to come to your home to share a meal with you, setting an attractive table is as important as serving good food. Your table setting is the first thing that your guests will see and can actually influence their appetites. This is why you should chose your setting carefully, based on whether the dinner is to be casual or elegant. If you are having a formal dinner, then using a cream colored, linen tablecloth with matching cloth napkins is great for this type of dinner. You an accent it with a crystal or gold vase filled with flowers. Be sure to use a low vase, so that your guests’ views of each other will not be blocked and you can use a large one for the center of the table and two small matching ones at the end. Candles also add a touch of elegance. Instead of using typical candle holders, considering using votives that you can set in bowls of water. Floating scented candles are another way to add grace and elegance to your table. If you prefer a modern type of elegance, then forget about using your grandmother’s china and purchase some of the newer dinnerware that uses colorful geometric shapes.

Be attentive to your guests and engage them in conversation. Make them laugh and they will appreciate you even more.

If you are having a casual dinner, then consider using brightly colored tablecloths and napkins. They add festiveness to the table and can be complimented with floral arrangements that match the colors that you use. You can buy utensils that have colored stems and glasses in colors to match. There are many casual place mats that are attractive and affordable. They will not only add a since of style to your place setting but will protect your table cloth as well. Themed dinners such as those served at holiday time, can be especially fun to decorate for. There is lots of dinnerware and utensils that have holiday themes and you can even band miniature Christmas tree ornaments together to make attractive compliments to your table. Red and gold are great colors to use for these dinners and don’t forget to break out the punch bowl for eggnog. If wine is going to be served, use crystal stemware. How you serve the food is also important. You should have pitchers of water at each end of the table and serve the appetizers first. Once they have been eaten, clear the table to make room for the main dishes. Replace soiled napkins and refill the water pitchers. Your desert should be as inviting as the main course.

Consider peach cobbler or a chocolate layer cake. Always have a sugar free alternative in case one of your guests can not eat food that contains sugar.

Today’s modern kitchen serves as a family hub of household activity and entertaining. They are now well lit, open places. The kitchen’s size and design should address your family’s lifestyle and how your kitchen is used for cooking, eating and entertaining. The kitchen fills more roles than any other room in the house, which means they have had to increase in size as well. The design can be challenging, especially when creating an open-faced kitchen - one that’s part of a dining area, family room or great room. Both the function and style of the modern kitchen play important roles when tackling a kitchen design or renovation project. If you’re remodeling an existing kitchen or planning a kitchen here are some current kitchen design trends to keep in mind.

individual and freestanding pieces of furniture instead of the usual built-in cabinetry for expanded ‘great room’ kitchens. This also leads to another trend of incorporating features from heirloom quality furniture such as glazed, distressed and antique finishes.

One of the more recent trends in modern kitchen design ideas is to make the kitchen part of your ‘great room’, that is to combine the kitchen with an adjacent family room. To create the great room the wall separating the kitchen and family room or dining room is completely removed creating a more open space centered by a spacious kitchen island or peninsula. There are some definite advantages to expanding the kitchen. Opening up the space and will make both the kitchen and the other room look and feel more specious. If you plan carefully, the kitchen cabinetry, countertops and appliances can be beautiful pieces of furniture in their own right. Furniture-style cabinetry will continue to be a popular trend in kitchen design. These furniture-style cabinets are considered to be especially popular in the development of kitchen islands. Features that give cabinets a furniture-like appearance are legs or bun feet, corbals onlays and mouldings. Cabinet doors are made with solid hardwoods, the most popular being maple and cherry. As for finishes light and medium finishes continue to be popular, although kitchen designers and trendwatchers also see a growing interest in deep, rich browns as influenced by the furniture industry to some extent and to create a more formal look for the kitchen. Cabinet manufacturers and kitchen designers are starting to design more

Undermount sinks in both cast iron and stainless steel are among recent changes in kitchen design because homeowners like the clean smooth look that blends with modern designs. The advantages of an undermount sink are that it is functional, beautiful and very easy to install. The bowl is attached underneath a countertop. No sink rim shows above the countertop and there is no lip to collect water and catches dirt and crumbs. Instead debris is easily swept into the sink so that the counter can be cleaned faster. Glazed, distressed and antique finishes are being used more and more to replace traditional ornate details once used on many high-end cabinets. According to most kitchen designers, as today’s kitchen expands in size and complexity, “mixed orders” are becoming more commonplace. Kitchen islands, wet bars, baking centers and butler’s pantries are being incorporated into more and more kitchen designs creating the need for more contrasts-in cabinet styles, colors, types of wood and finishes. 7 TIPS FOR BUYING AN

Before buying an outdoor fireplace, there are several factors to take into account. Always remember that the safety of your family and property is the most important consideration. 1. Size matters When comparing fireplaces, look at the size of the fire area before the height. If the firebox is small, wood buying and cutting is more difficult. Requesting for specially cut wood from your supplier increases your cost. Try to find a large firebox, don’t bother with the tall and thin fireplace. A small firebowl will cost more down the road. You don’t need a large fire just because you have a large fireplace, just use less wood to have a smaller fire. A good fireplace burns more cleanly and more efficiently than a firepit design having no smoke stack. The fireplace draws air into the fire and blows out the neck for an efficient burn. Firepit designs tend to smoke and smolder much more than a traditional fireplace design because of poor airflow. 2. Proper maintenance Fireplaces made in the more commercial copper, clay or sheet steel don’t have the longevity or safety of aluminum or cast iron. Sheet metal fireplaces are available at a bargain cost. They’re pretty much a disposable type of fireplace. Once metal sheet fireplaces start to rust, they have already outlived their usefulness. Check the gauge or thickness of the metal. A metal too thin might melt. Some cast iron fireplaces have sheet metal necks. If that’s the case, check if the manufacturer has replacement parts available and cost. Frequent replacement for the neck is not what you want. Cast iron must be maintained to prevent rust. It is a little difficult to maintain. But a well maintained cast iron fireplace will last you a long time. Also, consider the placement of your cast iron fireplace. The cast iron fireplace tends to stain the surface it stands on. An occasional paint job with a high temperature paint will slow down rusting. The cast iron is heavy and can stand a lot of abuse.

When the bottom falls out, it can be quite a mess. Avoid placing your clay fireplace on a wooden deck or any surface that can easily be damaged by heat or fire. Place it on cement or tile. If you choose to purchase a clay fireplace, take safety precautions. Use a spark arrestor and a mouthscreen for safety. The extra cost is well worth it. A clay fireplace is generally cheaper but has a shorter lifespan than either aluminum or cast iron. 6. Surround view fireplaces and raised firepits Most surround view fireplaces are built with light materials. Surround view fireplaces are easy to tip over because of the light material used to make it. When it is tipped over, it will send ash and embers everywhere. Safety is an issue with surround view fireplaces. Slight breezes might send embers and catch fire with flammable materials. If you’re buying a raised firepit, be sure that it comes with a lid. Otherwise, ash will be spread all over your patio when it rains. 7. What to burn Hardwood is by far the most popular fuel for outdoor fireplaces. Pinon wood has a pleasant pine scent when burning. It keeps the flame active and generates good heat. It also helps in keeping insects away. Other fuel sources are propane, gel inserts, manufactured firelogs and natural gas.

Copper looks great initially but after a couple of uses it tends to be green and rusty. Several companies put holes in the bottom of the firepits to drain ash and water out during rain. Firepits without holes will be filled with water when it rains.

Pine cones and applewood can be added for more aroma.

Cast Aluminum is one of the best buys. It is easy to maintain and a long lifespan. An aluminum fireplace does not warp and only has a slightly lower melting temperature than cast iron. Cast aluminum does not rust. It is also considerably lighter than cast iron making it easier to move around.

3. Weigh it When comparing fireplaces, check the weight. Most fireplaces are produced by weight, so they are bought by weight. Be sure that you’re comparing the same material, copper to copper or cast iron to cast iron. 4. Aluminum feature Cast aluminum is by far a better choice for a novice outdoor enthusiast. The fireplace is easier to maintain and can be easily moved around. It may be brought to a home by the lake or stored during winter along Northern areas. Store it to prevent damage or possible theft.

Several fireplaces come with inserts for natural gas and propane.

5. Clay fireplace The most disturbing problem with a clay fireplace is that it can fall apart without prior warning.

kitchen faucet buying tips

A durable and stylish kitchen faucet or bath faucet blends together function and aesthetics. The well made faucet makes life a lot easier. Excellent valve mechanism and more durable finishes boost longevity and looks. HERE ARE SIX STEPS IN CHOOSING THE RIGHT FAUCET FOR YOU:

Much like the ceramic disk, the cartridge faucet usually does not need any maintenance. Just like the ceramic disk, it has a hefty price tag. Regardless of the type of faucet you choose. Always check the warranty and the finish. 6. YOU MAY OPT FOR FILTERING FAUCETS, costing $200 plus, to bring in purified water. Several filters are placed under the sink while others are fitted inside the spout. To set the maximum water temperature, an anti-scald faucet can be used. An electronic faucet with an infrared sensor is also available. They save on water and allow for cleaner handles.

1. TWO-HANDLE DESIGNS, generally goes for as low as $50, allows you to regulate the temperature more accurately. Having independent control for the hot and cold water makes adjusting the temperature easier. The single handle faucets also known as post-mount, generally goes for $75 to $200, operate from side-mounted lever or a top-mounted knob. Most single-handle faucets have pullout spouts. The cross-shaped design and large wing levers are the more popular designs. However, most faucets have different handles that can be attached to a faucet body for a customized look. 2. IF THE STYLE OF THE FAUCET IS IMPORTANT, begin your choosing with the type of finish. The most affordable finish for a faucet is a chrome finish. Usually priced around $60. The chrome-finish has a long warranty on scratches. The more colorful enamel coatings generally will cost you from $20 to $200 more, and are more susceptible to scratches and chipping. Add 25 to 40 percent more to the price of coated faucets for stainless steel faucets. 3. A PVD (PHYSICAL VAPOR DEPOSITION) FINISH is better than usual plated finishes but add $150 to $750 more in costs. The PVD finish is done by vaporizing the metal and glazing it with a scratch-resistant and non-tarnishing film. Look at brushed chrome, oil-rubbed bronze and satin nickel for a rustic appeal. The brushed finish and satin finish cleverly hides scratches. 4. THERE ARE MORE TO SPOUTS aside from the standard straight faucets. There are higharching goose-like spouts, great for filling pots. A pull-out faucet can get you anywhere in a sink with three-bowls. You can go from a spray mode to a stream mode with a touch. There are also restaurant-type models for those extra long hoses.

In general, you don’t need to hand over your hard earned money to pay for good quality. Most faucets have the same basic parts and sometimes even the same finish across several price lines. To have a streamlined, urban look, choose a faucet that is mounted on the wall, this is often used with vanity bowls. Be sure that your faucet connection matches your sink holes. If they don’t match, you’ll have to provide more drill holes or cover the unused holes using an escutcheon plate. All faucets in general carry at least one year warranties. Even the low-end models carry at least one year of warranty. Many faucets carry a warranty by the manufacturer that is more than one year. Good luck choosing the perfect faucet for you. About the Author: Written by Johnm Morris For more great faucet information and resources check out: http://www.elegantfaucets.info Article Source:http://www.freearticles.co.za/home/accessories/ kitchen-faucet-buying-tips.html

5. KNOW THAT THERE ARE FOUR KINDS OF FAUCETS. a. The compression valve: The compression valve uses rubber washers. The compression valve type of faucet will eventually leak but they are typically easy to repair. b. The ball valves: The ball valve controls the flow and temperature of the water by using a steel ball. The ball valves are washerless and easy to maintain because of this. Replacing a ball valve is readily affordable and easy to do. c. The ceramic disk The ceramic disk is virtually a maintenance free water faucet. It is guaranteed not to wear out but is obviously much more expensive than the ball valve or compression valve. d. The cartridge faucet

can leave your bathroom looking fresh o you have a favorite room in your home? This is different for everyone, for some it’s the living room with feet propped up watching TV, for others it’s their bedroom and still others may prefer the kitchen, particularly teenagers! For many though, the bathroom is their favorite, especially for ladies, I have a theory that this the reason all the newer homes being built in my area are including large bathrooms. For many people the bathroom is a place of solitude and meditation that they can’t get anywhere else in the home. For so many people, they treat the bathroom as their fortress and want it to be clean, comfortable, and cozy which had a lot to do with the colors and bathroom accessories that you choose. If you truly want your bathroom to be high quality and make it as nice as possible you must use the best quality products and blend the design, colors, and styles with the theme you have in mind for your room. Ceramic bath accessories make for very high quality bathroom accessories that present a luxurious appearance. You can choose from such items as soap dishes, a lotion dispenser, toothbrush holder, waste basket, tumbler, and many other ceramic bathroom accessories. For superior bathroom accessories, choosing to use ceramic bath accessories can give your bathroom a clean and elegant appearance. Let your bathroom be a reflection of your personality, if you are the type that has a personality that appreciates finer things, I’m sure your bathroom reflects that aspect. Choosing ceramic bathroom accessories can change the entire look of your bathroom and endow your lavatories and shower areas with a fresh, clean new look. The many home accessories sites online have all the diverse ceramic bath accessories that you can look through and choose to

make your bathroom as elegant as you want. In addition, they have many small items you may not have even thought of that you need for little extras for you bathroom needs. The majority of the sites feature bathroom accessories produced by ceramic manufacturers who are known for their quality products. the house manager

As much as possible, one wants aspects of life separated from each other. With each and every aspect already hard enough manage on their own, some separation can help you to keep things exclusive and concentrate on a certain aspect of your life. A house reflects the personality of the owner. If you have a house that is messed up and not manageable, it will reflect your own lifestyle that is probably as unkept as your house. It’s quite easy to manage a household; all you need is a little creativity. One popular cause of an impossibly hard to manage household is the separation of one room from another. For example, you don’t want your kitchen in complete sight from the living room. Not only is it tasteless, but your living room will smell of fish when cooking. You don’t want your study to be near the living room because with all the noise the living room will make, you won’t be able to do your work, and there is always the temptation to turn on the televison instead of concentrate on your studies. The simplest solution to this is a room divider. 1. Room Dividers A room divider does not necessarily mean a concrete/wooden wall in the middle of your house. Although most of the time, that is the case, other alternatives are available. The good thing about these room dividers is that, not only will it separate the rooms in your house, but it is also an opportunity for you to accentuate your home.

replaced according to your mood or decoration. You can also choose a fabric that already has a design for your room. It will bring a room to life when properly used. 4. Bamboo room dividers Bamboo room dividers are instant classics. The simple, yet elegant look of the bamboo divider is enough to light up any room. If you have wooden floor, get the bamboo room divider. It will better accentuate your room and it will have that unity in the design. 5. Wrought iron room dividers If you have a big room and you want it to be separated into two, the wrought iron room dividers ought to do the job. These dividers bring drama to the room and its elegance will make any room look more intimate. 6. Glass room dividers

- More fun than concrete walls

For the semi-private feel, the glass room divider is made for you. Just like the fabric room divider, a glass room divider may be used to divide one big room into two rooms with almost similar functions. If you want to keep an eye on another room while in the other room, this is also a good separator to keep in mind.

- Decorative

7. Mirror room dividers

2. Screen room dividers

Mirror room dividers are very useful especially if you have a large fitting room. Not only that, but you can immediately turn a room into a ballet or dance studio by adding this divider into a large room. There are a lot of ways to divide rooms according to your taste. You do not need to go far just to get it all done, all you need is a little creativity and imagination. A good room divider may make or break a room. Make sure that when purchasing a divider, you’re buying one because it goes well with the holistic design of the room.

- Add sophistication and class to your house - Combine your own personality to the space

These are the most common room dividers around. They’re cheap and can get the job done. These dividers are easy to install and can blend in any house with the right framing. There are a lot of designs out there that can mach your playroom, study, living room and kitchen. These screen room dividers come in foldable or sliding dividers. 3. Fabric room dividers These room dividers are used mainly when dividing a room into two almost common functions. For example, these dividers will add class to any bedroom when separating the bed from the rest of the bedroom. It’s a simple room divider and the fabric may be easily

for your garage Yes, this is the time of year to get all of the dust out of the garage and clean up the mess you made all winter long.

Get organized for spring chores, get all of the tools and equipment ready and hunt down all of the ‘lost’ winter fix-it tools. PLAN OF ATTACK Set aside 2 consecutive days for organizing your garage. One day for tearing it apart and putting it back together and the next day for organizing wall space.

ORGANIZING BINS, STORAGE CONTAINERS ETC. When purchasing organizing products for your garage, retail stores have wonderful and inexpensive products, look in every department for things to use. Such as a piece of pipe is good for hanging things on and very sturdy and unbendable; Garage items can be very heavy and need extra support, you might want to add extra supports or make them out of wood.

You will need to take everything out, boxes, bikes, lawnmowers, snow blowers etc. DUMP AND DECLUTTER Keep in mind when you might use items again! “Just in case” is not a sufficient reason to keep all the items in your garage. Decluttering is just as important in this space as any other in your home. Once you have made decisions about what you are keeping, it is time to define categories for storage.

Metal shelving units are popular, but don’t forget to use the wall space at the top of the wall. Shelving can go up here, be out of the way and is great for those things you only use once or twice a year. Sturdy plastic containers with lids that seal are an excellent way to keep bugs and dirt away.

Categories for your garage might be outdoor toys, hardware, tools, gardening, and automotive. If you have wood scraps, be sure to store these together but don’t keep every scrap, the ceiling is a good place to store these items. Don’t forget you have storage room above the overhead doors that can be used for long flat things.. Also, take this opportunity to clean your garage, sweeping out bugs, dirt and more! KEEP IT REACHABLE Once you have created your categories, put things that you use the most in easy access and things that are ‘sometime’ things can go up higher. Use wall and ceiling space to maximize your area. Put up shelves to put boxes on and label them so you can ‘look and find’. Electrical, hardware, peg hooks, etc. However, keep as much as you can off the floor.

Label everything you have in containers for easy searching. Being able to actually use your garage and find everything without wasting time hunting for it are rewards for your hard labor. Do you have any idea how much money you are going to save without having to go and purchase new items for the things you lost. Good by to the saying; “I know I have one; someplace!” About the Author: Written by Jan Hayner Jan Hayner is a Professional Organizer and creator of www.organizingandcleaning.com, she offers tips, hints and shortcuts to everyday problems with organizing your home, work, family and life. Communication with your dog is a constant process and they are always watching and interpreting. Your Communication Your attitude and body language is very important. I did my college dissertation on Non Verbal Communication which is reputed to be 75%+ of human communication. It’s the belief of many that dogs ‘read’ that language really well and react accordingly. What you say and how you say it must be consistent. Your posture and tone must confident and direct. If you don’t believe you are in charge why will your dog? Hesitant tones will not work and sends your dog a mixed message...in the absence of direction they will keep barking. And even worse your command authority diminishes. You have to be the boss. Training Dogs is a Family Effort Training a dog is really a case of Train the Trainer. You, the owner (or owners), have to be trained. A key point to keep in mind is consistency...if there are 4 family members, they are all trainers and you should all handle your dogs training the same way every time. Confused humans will lead to a confused and still barking dog. Agree on your commands - have one set only. Put this list on the ‘fridge or on the bathroom mirror until everyone is on the same page. See what I mean by training? :) Reinforcement Psychology has shown us that a behavior that is NOT reinforced either positively or negatively will go away. But what does that mean? Well if your dog barks and you yell at him to shut up, you are reinforcing the barking. Even though yelling seems negative to you, your dog is getting your attention, which is reinforcing in itself. He may even think you’re barking, which helps sustain his barking. If you attempt to calm him with petting or treats. This again reinforces the barking, because your dog learns that when he barks, he gets treats and or love. I can see the penny dropping...yes! That is exactly why he barks despite all the love and treats you gave him! So a change in mindset is needed. Try this.

long they bark. An added level is to not only ignore the behavior but to also leave the room. So he gets no response and he gets left alone. Neither of which your dog wants. Absolutely no reinforcement. It can be very effective but consistency is key. However a puzzling issue for some owners is that a bored or lonely dog will often bark for company and attention. You have to work out which it is. You can easily find out by taking him for a walk or playing with him. However wait until he has stopped barking before doing it or he will link the two. Distractions This is a combination of commands and distraction. If you create another noise such as clapping your hands it can be enough to startle and stop the barking - as you do that say ‘Quiet’ once he stops, pet and treat him. You must use the command otherwise you’ll spend the rest of your life clapping. Water is the more drastic distraction method. Some people use a squirt bottle or water pistol. The dog will likely stop barking as it tries to work out what just happened. Again say ‘Quiet’ and pet and treat him when he obeys. Never aim at the face, aim for your dog’s body. Dogs like humans are very sensitive about their face and if they feel threatened there, it may result in other negative behavior such as growling if they are approached. About the Author: Written by John G. Kelly Article Source:http://www.freearticles.co.za/pets-and-animals/stopbarking-simple-things-try.html

Ignore his barking totally. Sometimes this works really well as the dog gets the message quickly. It’s a tough one as you have to not respond no matter how

It’s that time of year again for the Melville Millionaires Farm & Leisure Lotto and we need your support. Last year we were within 45 tickets of a sellout. This year with your generosity, we anticipate a sell out. With you, the previous purchasers, our lotto can be a success. It’s crucial for the club to have a successful lottery. Just a reminder last year we had a person purchase a 3-pack for $250.00 and the person won on all three tickets, so please help out by purchasing a ticket for $100.00 or 3-$250.00, it is a worthy cause, and perhaps on of the fine players you help support will make it to the big league! “It’s kind of a David and Goliath scenario”, we’ve got Melville, population 4,500, and we’re playing in a league where everyone is at least two times bigger than us and some as large as a million people.

We’re playing in a big league but we just don’t have the people to do it (alone). We’ve been able to compete in the league but the costs just continually go up: travel, meals, accommodations, equipment, everything. Melville has always been such a good sports town but we’re fighting the odds all the time because we’re small. We are asking or community and the whole country to help us out by purchasing some lottery tickets. The total cash and prizes for the lottery are valued at over $217,764.00. First prize is a choice of $100,000 in cash or one of four packages (two are farm related, one is material for a cottage and the other is a package comprising of two vehicles, a boat and two ATV’s). The main draw is May 17 and the value of the grand prize package is $115,000.00 and up. An early bird draw will be held March 29th. It consists of an electrical bicycle and $15,000.00 in cash prizes. There are a total of 118 prizes. Winner will be published in the Melville Advance, the Western Producer and available on our web site Millionairesbaseball.com. Also, we’ve included a winners list of last years lotto. Just imagine you trying to decide which package you should take, or simply say write me a cheque for $100,000.00. But you have to purchase a ticket(s) for this years lotto to be eligible, so please don’t wait, as there will be not more reminders. Call or mail today, so you’re not left out on any of the lotto draws!!!

The WMBL also includes teams in Yorkton, Weyburn, Regina, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Swift Current, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Okotoks, Edmonton and Sherwood Park. Melville is the smallest market in the league. The team provides a lot of entertainment for the fans and when we’re on the road every time we play there’s always publicity for our community, you can’t buy that kind of thing. The baseball club provides an excellent place for young men to develop their skills and further their baseball careers. The revenue from the lottery won’t just help solidify the financial standing of the franchise, it’ll also assist the team on the field. For example:

Bean bags are chairs that look like a bag, and not like your ordinary chair. These are extremely flexible and comfortable and adjust to the shape of the person who sits on it. Bean bags provide fun sitting and should be purchased after careful consideration. The important factors to be considered are the materials, sizes, prints, prices, and fillings of the bean bags. The fact is that different people find different things appealing in the bean bags. The ultimate factor is whether you like the comfort of bean bags or not.

ANCIENT EGYPTIAN HEALING ARTS

Bean bags come in various sizes. There are small bean bags that cannot be used as actual chairs but make great children chairs with enough space for small children. Medium and large size bean bags make nice additions to dorm rooms or apartments when friends come over. There are also deluxe or the king sized chairs that can accommodate two or more persons. The next thing to consider while buying bean bags is the type of the material used for the bag. The most commonly used material for bean bags is cotton with a micro fiber lining so that the filling of the bean bag is protected from water. Another material used in bean bags is vinyl, though considered by many as too sticky and hence uncomfortable. There are also bean bags made from leather, velvet, velour and silk.

It is advisable to ensure that the bean bag chair has an outer sleeve that is removable. These bags are normally supported with an inner liner that is water resistant. With a removable outer sleeve the bean bag can be easily cleaned and in case of necessity easily repaired. Furthermore, bean bags are seen in various colors and with various prints. The different kinds of prints are leopard and zebra, ornate, shiny colors, flat colors and a lot more to keep up with the imagination. To make your bean chair look new and fresh you can zip a new

Quinn Straza Reiki Master Certified Reflexologist custom-made chair cover over it. Normally bean bags are filled with bits of Styrofoam, a rigid material to make their texture unique. But if the bean bag is made of cheaper material, Styrofoam leaks out because of its rigid nature. In order to ensure comfort and durability of the bean bag chairs, manufacturers have started using polyurethane instead of Styrofoam. Although these bags are costly when compared to Styrofoam bags, they offer more comfort and one can feel it as soon as one sits on the chair.

The cheapest of bean chairs cost around $100, the midrange ones cost between $130 and $200 based on their material and size. Polyurethane and designer bean bag chairs cost nearly $300. When buying a bean chair remember to sit and try it first. In case your purchase it online, always ensure that there is enough provision to return the chair if found uncomfortable. Sitting on the bean bag should be very comfortable and suitable to you. Dear Reena, How can I prevent a freshly baked cheesecake from cracking? Signed, Queen of the Kitchen Dear Queen of the Kitchen, The number one rule to prevent cheesecakes from cracking is not to overbeat the batter. Mix the cream cheese and sugar well to eliminate lumps, but after eggs are added, beat the mixture as little as possible. Remember, your cheesecake is done when it is firm, even if the middle still looks moist. Run a knife around the outside of the cheesecake 10 minutes after it comes out of the oven. Chill the cake overnight to really bring out the flavours. Hi Reena, How do I fix matted faux fur on a hood or “hoody”? (I washed and dried my “hoody” and the faux fur came out looking horrible.) Thanks, Diamond Dear Diamond, Unfortunately very little can be done to restore fake fur once it has been heat damaged. If the garment has sentimental value, you can locate suitable faux fur and replace the damaged fabric to restore the garment.

Fabulous Tips of the Week! When I bring steaks home from the grocery store, I put marinade in a large re-sealable freezer bag along with the meat before I put them in the freezer. This allows the beef to marinate as it defrosts. Dennis To prevent butter from burning when frying or browning foods, add a teaspoon of oil to the skillet along with the butter. Eric

Dear Reena,

This is an easy way to peel hard-boiled eggs. Use the palm of your hand to I was recently given a large collection of nail polishes, the problem is that the gently roll the egg on the countertop. The shell will peel off much faster. Eric lids are stuck and I can’t seem to remove them without breaking the bottles. Any suggestions? Colleen Hi Reena, Hi Colleen, Wrap one rubber band tightly around the bottle and another rubber band around the lid. Run HOT water over the bottle for 30 seconds. Turn the lid with ease. Leave the nail polish for one hour before applying because the polish will be runny from the heat. Hi Reena, My Challenge is to remove Silly Putty embedded in the material of a child’s hoody made from 80% cotton, 20% polyester. Any suggestions for me to try? My thanks, Lila Lila, Spread the area with either WD-40 or peanut butter, leave for 10 mins. and scrape with a plastic putty knife. Next pour Dawn dish soap onto the area and wash the hoody as usual. I saw a tip about using a solution of powdered sugar and boric acid to get rid of silverfish. Where does a person buy boric acid? I have looked around but no one seems to sell it could you please help me as I have a lot of silverfish in my basement. Thanks Doreen Hi Doreen, You are absolutely correct a mixture of powdered sugar and boric acid spread in a few places along baseboards should do the trick to get rid of silverfish. Take caution around children and pets.Boric acid is a naturally occurring compound created by boron in combination with oxygen, and when sodium is combined with boron, borax is created. In other words, feel free to head to your local grocery store laundry department and purchase borax to replace boric acid. It is also important to note that in order to zap silverfish permanently you will want to get rid of all excess moisture in the basement by purchasing a good quality dehumidifier. If infestation continues please contact a fumigation service.

AUTOMOTIVE California is considered to be the birthplace of hot rods. People were looking for cars to race across the salt flats, and many amateur mechanics looked to create streamlined vehicles for racing. They used whatever parts they could find in local junkyards. The idea was that they could build a better racer than their more affluent neighbors with sheer ingenuity. It was important that the cars could be used both for racing and everyday driving, since very few people had more than one car. Early hot rods were created from Ford Model T and Model A roadsters. Actually, the term “hot rod” is believed to be derived from the phrase “hot roadster.” Model Ts and As were plentiful, cheap and easy to modify for racing. The absence of a top made these cars lighter than most, though sedans and coupes were soon used for racing. These would often be prepared for racing by removing the tops and giving the windshield a backwards slope to make them lighter and more aerodynamic. The tires were usually replaced, with very large rear tires to raise the gear ratio. Small front tires were used in combination with the large rear tires in order to “rake,” or slope, the car forward. This further decreased wind resistance. Slots were cut into the body of the car to help keep the engine cool. These backyard enthusiasts made every effort to create the fastest car in the region. After WWII, the American public became enthralled with hot rods. Many early enthusiasts came back from military service with mechanical and metalworking skills, and they were ready to put those skills into their cars. They gathered once again in southern California’s dry region and continued customizing cars and racing. As street racing rose in popularity, so did the dangers associated with it. All across the country, kids were racing their hot rods, sometimes with fatal consequences. From cruising the streets

at night to gathering at local hot spots, the youth of America became obsessed with street racing. Eventually, the American public at large looked upon hot rodding as a dangerous and delinquent pastime which, along with rock and roll, was rotting the youth of the country. To offset this perception, the first Hot Rod Exhibition was held in Los Angeles in 1948. The exhibition emphasized the positive aspects of hot rods, such as craftsmanship and ingenuity. Hot rod associations were formed in order to develop cooperation between enthusiasts and the police, giving the entire subculture a better image in the public eye. Many people shifted the focus from creating a racing car to creating a unique and beautiful vehicle. Custom paint jobs became all the rage, while the slope of the car changed. While early builders leaned the car forward, people started to slope the cars toward the rear. The cars were built for looks rather than racing, though their engines and performance were still held in high regard. Hot rods are still highly popular vehicles, among both younger and older generations. Their size, appearance and performance appeal to many. Amateur mechanics still park them in their garage to tear them apart, soup them up and take them to the streets. Just like in the old days, it’s about creating a better car with a little money and a lot of determination. THE ULTIMATE IN PERFORMANCE EXHAUST It’s no secret, NASCAR will only choose quality brands to become part of the NASCAR family of performance products. Aero Exhaust is an exclusive NASCAR partner. Feel the unmistakable power and performance of the Aero Exhaust Turbine series. Every car, SUV, and truck equipped with the Turbine will become more powerful while using less fuel. And you can do it for less than the cost of an average tune-up.

A BREAKTHROUGH IN HIGH PERFORMANCE EXHAUST TECHNOLOGY When the incoming exhaust air stream enters the Aero Exhaust it is rapidly expanded and split via an airfoil cone with an orifice similar to a jet engine. The outer airflow velocity is increased due to the increased distance the outer air must travel. The higher density inner air stream also creates a low pressure vacuum in the outer expansion chamber that assists in drawing the air out of the exhaust pipe. The outer air stream accelerates as it recombines with the inner air stream. The recombining of the air streams muffles the exhaust sound and increases the exhaust flow. Thus allowing your engine to breathe easier and dramatically increases your vehicles performance. The Turbine series allows for more efficient combustion to create added power instead of simply dumping more fuel into your engine. The Aero Turbine achieves incredible performance and improved gas mileage while creating the smoothest low throaty turbo sound on the market.

one of the coolest classic cars ever made The Buick Riviera that was released and sold in the year I was born, 1965, was quite a vehicle. It was the last year for the “first generation” Riviera model - and by far the best. A unique, recognizable body style that encompassed a spacious cabin and housed a powerful V8 engine has now become a sought-after gem of classic car collectors. I was fortunate enough to have one for a few months in my youth. Here are some of its power stats: *0-60 in 8 seconds *Quarter mile in 16 seconds *Top speed observed 115 MPH *Mileage 13.2 MPG With a 401 Wildcat under the hood, I had no trouble getting where I wanted to go. And while the body was large, it was quite maneuverable thanks to the standard equipment power steering and stiff heavy-duty suspension. And who says getting there fast can’t be in style? Check out some of the features it came with: *Front bucket seats *Bucket-style rear seats *Cruise control *Tilt steering wheel *Center console floor-shifter & storage comp. *Power windows, including wing-window! *Driver side 4-way power seat *Air conditioning *AM/FM radio with power antenna This 1965 car had more stuff than my 1985 Toyota did! I can remember cranking up the radio with the cruise control on doing 75 while adjusting my power seat, the tilt wheel, and the power wing windows. Ah to be young again - those were the days. But the real feature that made the 1965 Buick Riviera stand out from all the other years were the hidden headlights. Tucked out of sight by the clam-shell covers that opened and closed automatically on the outer edges of the vehicle, they were moved back into the grille for all future body styles (where they had been the previous 2 years. Back in the mid-80’s these cars were a lot easier to find, but there are some original vehicles still sitting in driveways out there is suburban and rural America. You might be able to pick one up for $1,000 if you do your homework. Less populated areas away from big metro cities are your best bet for discovering one of these hidden gems. Find one, invest some time and/or money into restoring it, and you will have something special. It’s a good investment too; you just can’t lose restoring classic American cars. There is another unique Riviera worth mentioning here, and that is the 1972 model, otherwise known as the “torpedo back.” A neighbor-mechanic of mine told me they love those things in Las Vegas (this was in 1985). I have never owned one of those - not yet anyway! About the Author: Written by Andrew Kasch Andrew Kasch is a classic car enthusiast. You can read more about his second car and see a photo gallery at his site: http://www.1965buickriviera.info Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/classics-articles/why-the-1965-buick-riviera-is-one-ofthe-coolest-classic-cars-ever-made-78982.html

The Ford Motor Company: a lifetime of classic cars What started out as a simple ingenious way of putting things together became a great well of classic cars. The Ford Motor Company started out as a small group of three people working together to form a few simple cars. Each person would work on a different component, thus making the process much quicker. And when this style of work grew onto large scales, it defined how car creation would be. Ford is undeniably a legendary creator of classic cars. Here we will take a look at some of the great defining vintage cars that this company has made. The Model T Made in 1908, this car made all those horse-powered carriages become a simple tourist novelty. The Model T heralded the real start of popular automobile usage. Its success came with the fact that it was affordable. Ford’s assembly-line way of production paid off. It was so popular that it was in fact considered to be the world’s best selling car design before the Volkswagen Beetle dominated the race--which was almost 60 years after! The Model A Ford had it strange with the alphabet. After Model T, the next fashionable car that Ford has introduced was the Model A in 1927. It was a simple and elegant car, but with additions that would define what a car would be for years. Take for example the four-wheel mechanical brakes, as well as the hydraulic shock absorbers. It had a starting price of around $300-$400. And now, a not-so-restored Model A roadster sells for $20,000 at the least. How’s that for a classic car value. The Model B The Model B could not have made it to this list of classic cars because it looked so much like the Model A. But it carried a very important artifact--the V8 engine. Yes, Ford Motor Companies created this monster of an engine, and they put it in one of their signature cars. The V8 engine also defined how a car’s performance should be: powerful, speedy, but affordable. The Fairlane Jump to 15 years after the Model B and the V8, and we have the first set of big cars. The Fairlane would start the trend of hood-and-trunk cars, with a classy look to boot. The Fairlane was in fact, the car for the ‘50s and ‘60s that it has permeated into the milkshake culture of that era. The Thunderbird The T-bird is also one of the defining cars that Ford has made. It is literally a sports car available for normal people, and which could be driven safely on the road. The Thunderbird is really a beauty, demand on the classic car market for first to third generation ones reached great proportions. The Mustang The Mustang is another trendsetter. Large muscle cars abound in the 60s, but Ford is not a company that conforms. The Mustang was the first of the ‘pony’ cars, with the long hood and short deck make. This car was so sweet and sexy that it was given a starring role as Mr. Bond’s car in Goldfinger. Aside from these cars, Ford provided us with quality trucks, buses, and even tractors. Though they may not be collectible, Ford Motor Company’s versatility showed through these utility vehicles. Still, what defines Ford is its ability to set a trend in automobile making, be it an affordable car, a high-performance engine, or new designs. And this trendsetting ability is what makes Ford’s vehicles valuable classic cars. About the Author: Peter Grizzly is an age-old classic car enthusiast. He makes his living now by being a classic car trader. Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/classics-articles/the-ford-motor-company-alifetime-of-classic-cars-420099.html

The 1970 Plymouth Cuda is a beautiful re-design of its previous models. An increased width of 5 inches allowed more powertrain options. The uncluttered and clean appearance of the this truly respected and memorable Plymouth was designed by sheet metal and styling. The smooth features of the exterior side were fenders, quarter panels with flush mounted door handles. The grill had single headlamp, two rectangular inlets with urethane coated electrometric bumpers which were optional. The Cuda looked like a pony car with the long hood and deck lid. Interior features such as high back buckets, steering wheel, smooth edges, large gauges and door panels gave a new look to the car. The 1970 Cuda was available with options like rear spoiler, rear window louvers, Hurst pistol grip shifter, Ralleye wheels, hood scoops, fog lamps, hockey stick striped quarter panels with attractive colors of TorRed, Lemon Twist, In Violet, Vitamin C and Lime Light. The Cuda 70 cars were considered as the most valuable Mopar muscle cars which were available in coupe and convertible models. There was 21,017 Cudas produced during the 1970 model year. The 1971 Plymouth Cuda saw some changes from the 70 model which included a cheese grater grill with 4 headlights, tail lights, fin like vents on fenders. The model included billboard decals which were optional on quarter panels covering door to rear side of the Plymouth car. The engine sizes during the year were 340, 383, 440 and hemi with optional electrometric bumpers. Interior of the car was upgraded with good seats and grip with options of split buckets. With minimal styling changes, the 1971 Cuda was most sought after by the people. Coupe and convertible models were available and totally 6602 Cuda cars were produced during the year. The Plymouth Cuda muscle car was released in 1972 with drastic changes from its previous models. During the period of the car, just like Detroit muscle cars, the Plymouth also faced issues of insurance pressures, gas shortages and emission standards. The features of the old model such as shaker scoop, shaker and big blocks were changed by small low compression blocks. The exterior Cuda had minimal changes. The single headlights of the 1972 Cuda were just like the 1970 model. Instead of using horizontal blind style which existed in the models of previous years, larg dual round unit tail lights were used in the 1972 Plymouth Cuda model. There were some minor exterior changes which included optional striping and not hockey stripe or billboard. The interior of the Cuda looked much the same as its previous models. But the advertisements of the car boasted standard bucket seats offering the users better grip and comfort compared to its previous models. The 1972 Plymouth Cuda was available in two basic options viz., 318 2bbl or hi performance 340 cid motor. The Plymouth Barracuda was available with a 4 speed including a pistol grip shifter. The 1972 Cuda came in a Coupe model. The 318 cid model had engine options of 8.8 Comp., 150 HP with standard motor whereas 340 model had engine of 8.5 Comp., and 240 HP. During the year 7828 total Cuda cars were produced much to the muscle car crowds enjoyment. Unofficially, the Porsche Carrera GT is a racecar, a racecar built for the street. What makes it a racecar is not necessarily the huge power produced by its V10 engine or the carbon fiber construction that keeps everything very lightweight - although these features surely make it a fast car. It’s more the sum of its parts that make this car worth every bit of its $440,000 price tag. The Porsche Carrera GT was introduced as a 2004 model and until 2005 there were already a few changes in order to make the Carrera GT the new Porsche super car. These were minor updates in order to make it a little more street friendly. Between the supplemental bar hoops is now mounted a glass screen. The seats height is adjusted along with the additional bolstering in the thigh area. The Carrera GT is easy recognizable, as it’s a low, sleek, lightweight roadster, very beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. Two removable panels that can be stored in the front trunk make the foul weather protection available.

lightweight materials such as magnesium for the car’s substantial wheels and the frames of its special sport seats, the result being a faster and safer car. To prove so, The Carrera GT accelerates from a standing start to 62 mph (100km/h) in only 3.9 seconds reaches 100 mph (160 km/h) in less than seven seconds, 125 mph (200 km/h) in less than 10 seconds, and can achieve a top test-track speed of 205 mph (330 km/h). What makes this car have these impressive results is it’s 5.5 liter, normally aspirated V10 engine for racing created in the development center in Weissach, Germany. That engine’s bores have been enlarged to displace 5.7 liters in the Carrera GT. It has a very low center of gravity, a 68-degree V angle and four valves-per-cylinder heads. Since the block, crankshaft and camshafts are all made of light alloys, the engine weights only 472 pounds (214 kg).

The car has unique features, among which are: 5.7 liter, 605 horsepower V10 engine, monocoque chassis with Porsche-patented engine and transmission mounts made of carbon-reinforced plastic and the first use of a ceramic composite clutch in a production car. A very important aspect is that The Carrera is safe and stable at speeds up to 205 mph, thanks to its aerodynamic and race-bred suspension package. The design of the suspension is so sophisticated that the shape of its components improves the Carrera GT`s aerodynamics. The designers used

To stop this “monster” Porsche`s team used a high-tech braking system. Developed for demanding motorsports applications, ceramic brakes are the first to work for on-road use. The massive 15 inch ventilated discs and sixpiston calipers have the amazing capacity of bringing the car to a sure and safe stop, matched only by the stunning acceleration of Carrera GT. Porsche Carrera GT is definitely a exotic appearance, a car that can do it all: fascinate you with its good looks, astound you with its performance and abilities on the race track. In order to receive proper care from a farrier you must give your horse a certain amount of training so as to make his job easier and make it easier on the horse in the bargain. There are so many horses that snatch thier feet away and fidget, sometimes actually leaning their weight on the farrier. Then you have the extremely untrained horse that will kick out at a farrier. This wastes time and money for him and is very embarrassing to the horses owner. Finding a good farrier is a job in itself. If your horse is untrained and gives a lot of trouble while handling their feet a good farrier will not give you the time of day, or he will charge you much more so that he doesn’t loose money on the added time it takes him to trim and shoe your horse. An answer for some is to sedate their horse but a good horse owner will not use sedation as the permanent answer. It is the responsibility of the owner to train the horse to willingly allow the farrier to work on their feet, lifting his foot to the farrier. It is best to start from a colt with tending to his feet and lifting them every day from the beginning so that it is a natural thing for him or her. If the horse is already older and still untrained then training can be done fairly quickly by being patience and not asking for too much too soon The first session of training should be anywhere from five to twenty minutes twice a day. If you don’t have time for two sessions then once a day will also give some results, but will end up taking much longer. Work with the horse untied as tieing him could cause him to panic. Begin with the front legs and rub him on the neck. Slowly make your way down the shoulder and if he is okay with that then keep preceding to the foreleg and eventually to the hoof. Keep repeating this procedure for a couple of days and then on the third day start to try to lift his leg up by tickeling the back side of the foot. This usually causes the horse to lift his foot voluntarily but you may have to try and lift it yourself. After the horse finally gives you his foot, you may want to lean in to his shoulder a bit to encourage him to shift his weight to the remaining legs for balance. This shifting will feel more secure for him and he will be less likely to get upset. If the horse tries to take his foot from you, hang on for dear life. Don’t give in and stay close to his body. Putting the foot back on the ground needs to be your decision not his and he must understand that. Wait until he is relaxed before you place the hoof back down.

trim and shoe your horse you will have already desensitized your horse to having his legs handled. About the Author: Written by Beth Guide Beth is the webmaster of Posh Pampered Pets. Its simple really. Just keep repeating this until you can take his foot and stretch it forward just as a farrier would do. Repetition is the key and doing all this slowly and matter-of-factly as possible. Then get others to come and lift his foot in the same way until he is comfortable with different people coming to lift his leg. By the time the farrier comes to

makes transporting your bike a breeze Bike trailers will hold your bikes while you are traveling down the road. You will find them for bicycles as well as dirt bikes and motorcycles. If you have a truck and are looking for a trailer to pull with your truck, this might make a huge difference in the trailer that you choose. Many trailers are made for trucks and not cars. However, not all trailers are made the same, not even trailers that are for bikes. When you go to look at bike trailers, it is a good idea that you take the vehicle you want to pull it with. This will ensure that the sales person you are dealing with will know what you are driving, and what kind of horsepower you are dealing with. Because all trailers are different, this might make a huge difference in the trailer you buy, and what your vehicle can handle. Make sure that you get the best bike trailer that you can afford. While all trailers for bikes are in different price ranges, you will want to buy the best that you can. Like with everything else, you get what you pay for. If you go and buy a rinky dink trailer for a rinky dink price, that is what you will have and you will be frustrated with your purchase before you get down the road and even load a bike onto it. This is a great reason to buy the best that you can afford, what ever that may be.

Bike trailers can be found in many places that you can purchase them. The best thing to is if you know of an individual that is selling a trailer for bikes is it contact them, and see about buying from someone that you know first. This way you know how old the trailer is, and you know or have some kind of an idea the abuse the trailer has been put through. Like everything else, trailers will eventually take all that they can take and fall apart. This will leave you looking for a new trailer, and wasting money in the long run. Wow, it is nearly holiday time again and the whole family is starting to get a little restless. What we need is to get away for a while and see some of our magnificent country. As we are owners of an RV we can do exactly that without it being too expensive. We as a family love to head off around the country and stay in campground recreational vehicle parks. We also like to just stop off somewhere remote and camp as well but mostly we like the atmosphere of a park. These campground recreational vehicle parks have so much to offer. For a start you feel more secure than when camping out on your own, you have the use of their facilities, some of them are even like mini resorts. We get to meet so many different types of people which are always interesting, and the kids get to play with other children. It is such a wonder experience to travel by road as you get to see so many things that you would not ordinarily see. Some people think that this type of holiday is not relaxing enough but I would disagree whole-heartedly. How can you not say that finding a beautiful private lagoon or a hidden valley is not relaxing? Sitting down with your family all alone seeing countryside that

is basically untouched is to me very relaxing. Ok, so you do have to drive a fair bit of the time but the scenery that you see makes up for it all and then of course you arrive at one of the many campground recreational vehicle parks and what else do you do but relax. In fact you don’t have to go to lots of these parks in one vacation. Lots of people have their favorite ones and go there and spend their whole vacation in the one place just relaxing. To travel like this does not mean that you have to own your own RV or camper like we do because you can rent one if you like. In fact it is a good idea to do just this first if you are thinking of buying one. Then you can see if you really like this type of holiday traveling around the countryside. I know lots of people who like to travel with friends or family in a sort of convoy. This way they have company while traveling. They all end up at the same park and continue on with their vacation as a group. Of course there are others who prefer absolute privacy and stick to themselves. This is really a very personal thing. But the good news is that this type of vacation suits everyone. It’s funny how when you travel like this you become very relaxed and sometimes forget to be cautious. Just because you are on holiday does not mean that you should forget to be safety conscious. By this I mean make sure you lock your RV or camper when not in attendance. Don’t leave valuables lying around, as you never know who is lurking around ready to pry on unsuspecting happy holiday goers. Other than this, enjoy your time away camping whether alone or at one of the many campground recreational vehicle parks. I know my family and I will. Ask yourself two basic questions before you do your boat-buying research. First, what will you be fishing for? Are you looking for a quiet sunrise break on the lake? Or do you want to test your skill on the high seas? Second, when and where will you do your fishing? That quick sunrise fishing trip at the lake will take little more than a row boat or raft. But the serious deep sea fishing trip requires a sturdy dependable vessel with ample safety features.

boat. This is where the experience of other boaters may prove extremely valuable to you. But think about how easily you’ll be able to launch and retrieve the boat from a ramp. Will you be able to quickly attach it for towing? How much labor are you willing to invest to move your new boat around? And if you’re buying a boat with some power, you’ll need to understand how well it maneuvers in the water. Boats aren’t as easy to test drive as automobiles, so you’ll need to be certain you can handle a high-powered fishing boat.

Here are a few specifics to consider when buying a boat. These are just a sample of the factors that can make the difference between an enjoyable and successful fishing trip and a heartache. Be sure to do more research. Visit boat dealers and talk to people who already own their own boat. Buying a boat can be an expensive proposition. Make sure you are well-educated so that your decision is one you don’t regret.

Buying a boat is an exciting adventure. You’re buying much more than a water craft. You’re buying years of pleasurable fishing experiences. It might be tempting to rush into your purchase, buying a boat that appeals to your taste. But slow down and take care that your new boat meets your needs. We can’t stress enough how important it will be to do your homework.

HOW WILL YOU TOW YOUR NEW BOAT?

Surf the internet to learn about boats, to find reviews, to listen in on forums and blogs, and to find out what models and brands have the best reputations. Talk to other boaters, and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions at dealerships. A good dealer will be more than willing to invest the time to make sure you’re an educated buyer.

Your tow vehicle will dictate some options when you’re buying a boat. Be sure it has the proper power to get the job done. Generally, a larger boat may require a vehicle that will pull up to 3500 pounds, especially where you have to travel hills and mountains. A small fishing boat, like a kayak or inflatable raft, may need a special rack for your car top. Before you go shopping, be sure you have the correct equipment to transport your new boat. WHAT MATERIALS ARE APPROPRIATE FOR YOUR FISHING NEEDS? In smaller lakes where there aren’t big waves, a light aluminum may be perfect. Aluminum is more forgiving of bumps and bangs than fiberglass or wood. It’s also less expensive. A light metal boat or inflatable raft will be best for early mornings on the lake, but they won’t last in the bay. For heavier seas, you’ll need more durable materials, a sturdier craft, and a powerful motor. SHOULD YOU CHOOSE A NEW OR SECOND-HAND BOAT? Second-hand boats are cheaper and hold their value longer since they’ve already depreciated. You’re more likely to get a dependable, economical deal with smaller boats that don’t have a lot of equipment or features. But if you’re investing in a larger boat with lots of features, you’ll want the warranty that comes when you’re buying a new boat. First-time buyers may be better off buying a boat from a dealer. Once you have some experience owning and operating your own boat, you’ll be in a better position to judge the value of a used boat. At the same time, if you’re buying a boat for long trips or highsea fishing, be prepared to spend thousands, or tens of thousands, to get a good vessel. It all depends on how you feel about safety and dependability. Take your chances and save money or spend the bucks and be secure. It’s all up to your adventurous nature. HOW DOES THE BOAT HANDLE?

Issue #15

It was the decade of decadence. It was about glitz and glamour as well as baubles, bangles, and beads. Everyone loved Luke and Laura in the afternoon. Lady Diane became the People’s Princess when she married Prince Charles. Nighttime soaps like Dallas and Dynasty ruled the airwaves. President Ronald Reagan ruled the United States. Tom Cruise felt the need for speed. Michael Milliken was the Junk Bond King. Gordon Gekko taught Wall Street whiz kids that greed was good. Material Girl Madonna made her musical debut. What decade was it? We can only be talking about that terrific time period – the excellent eighties. Here are twenty-one ways for you to verify that you belong to (or belong in) the 1980’s. 1. Breakdancing on the sidewalk looked like fun. Now it just looks like you might break something. 2. You can still recite dialogue from any movie starring Molly Ringwald. 3. “Cell phones” meant the telephone people used when they got their “one phone call” in jail. 4. You had at least one of the following: a Cabbage Patch Kid, He-Man action figures, a Rubik’s Cube, or something with a Pac-Man logo on it. 5. You remember a lot of headlines about the Human Genome Project, which was a complete mapping of human DNA. You also remember how this was supposed to lead to the eradication of disease. 6. You remember the day that thousands of radio stations across the world played “We Are The World” at the exact same time. (Now, you’re singing it!) 7. Your first album was a vinyl 33 and you laughed at your parents because they wanted to play 45’s and 8-track tapes. 8. You know who Oliver North is and why he was in the news. 9. Someone on your street or neighborhood sent his or her life savings to a later discredited televangelist.

12. You and your friends made fun of the “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” lady. (The fictional woman was named Mrs. Fletcher and the product was the LifeCall emergency service.) 13. You inserted “like” liberally and unnecessarily throughout your sentences. Like so, “Like, that was, like, the hardest test we ever had. So after class, I was all like asking the teacher and she was like it wouldn’t have been hard if you had studied. Then I was like is that like wicked rude or what?” 14. You know there was only one way Dorothy on the Golden Girls could make Sophia behave. She simply said, “Shady Pines, Ma, Shady Pines.” 15. You’ve actually tasted New Coke. Extra points if you wrote to Coca-Cola and insisted they bring back the original formula. 16. You remember when there was no such thing as CNN, E!, or MTV. 17. Your parents were afraid you’d cut yourself putting on a snap bracelet. 18. You were inspired by Sandra Day O’Connor, the first female Supreme Court Judge, Sally Ride, the first female astronaut and Geraldine Ferraro, the first (and as of this writing only) female Vice Presidential candidate. 19. Renting horror movie sequels about Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, and Michael Myers took up a lot of your time. 20. You loved the opposite sketches and green slime on You Can’t Do That On Television. 21. You played Atari, Intellivision, Sega, Nintendo, and Coleco until your hands went numb. Not nearly enough totally tubular nostalgia for you, for sure? Need more wicked rad 80’s memories? See the complete list at http://www.comprehensiveadvice. com/80s.html About The Author: Written by Matthew W. Grant Matthew W. Grant is a writer and consultant who spends entirely too much time reminiscing about the 1980’s. Article source: http://www.articlecity.com/articles/humor/article_300.shtml

10. You hung out with your friends at the mall, especially in the video arcade where you exchanged those hard-earned quarters for tokens. 11. You know that “glasnost” means openness or transparency and “perestroika” means economic restructuring.
