Maya Abu Sharar Charette Project 2007
After working in teams in our charette project, I realized that a productive team depends on three main key factors: Sophisticated, compartmentalization, and collegiality. Every project given to a student relies on many complex aspects that contain various variables. Those variables may give raise to complications. These complications are the reason why plans do not work out. Our job was to actually anticipate those complications and finding solutions to overcome them; and therefore, come up with a solid plan that would smoothen our task to create an interesting form. In the beginning we setoff by analyzing every term given to us and found out what could be more interesting. From that point on, we started brainstorming each word and finding related terms that would make our composition more attractive using abstractive forms. Compartmentalization was done by considering everyone's strengths and weaknesses and dividing the tasks accordingly. From there, collegiality created a more comforting atmosphere that served one common purpose. Moreover, our complementary skills helped in finding different styles to solve the obstacles we were going to face to in reaching our goal.
Working collaboratively helped in the understanding and supporting the project’s rationale. Throughout the process, we noticed that the short time given to us to come up with a large-scale structure helped us think creatively by accelerating our decision making regarding the style and structure of the composition. Team member’s feedback was quite helpful as it allowed more suggestions and ideas for improvement. As we were applying the design that we all agreed on, we noticed that the process was quite feasible due to our clear understanding of the project’s requirements. Our mutual
Maya Abu Sharar accountability produced a more professional atmosphere spiced with some fun.
When we created the mock-up of our design, we did not face any problems concerning our measurements at all. But later on when we actually dealt with our final project, we did face some issues regarding our measurements. In addition we had not paid attention to the fact that a large-scale project needs a larger base to help support the shapes. This affected the whole structure and forced last minute changes to be made. So instead of having the design standing vertically, we decided to let it lie down horizontally. We were in doubt of our final outcome until we received some positive feedback. This made us more confident of what we had achieved. The process was quite risky since it demanded over-active imagination, full concentration, commitment and cooperation.
In conclusion, the charette project was an amazing experience that will definitely be one of my most memorable events as a sophomore; an experience that will not only help me in my up-coming academic years, but also when I enter the work field.
