An Observation: A Modern Perspective of Leadership

Introduction

There is a saying that, “Leaders are born.”, but then, some are saying that, “Leaders are made.” It’s just like the existence of chicken and egg or vice versa. At present, leaders are bound to do their part in our society in order to achieve goals based from the outlook in the same arena of politics, governance, policy makers, and thru his own personal beliefs on how to discharge his authority.

According to some scholars and authors, there are numerous styles of leadership but we assumed those leadership style are implemented to exercising in a democratic ways.

This study aims to discover and realize how the leaders implementing their policy and authority in accordance to his knowledge and standpoint in every situation arises.

It also implies that this study signifies the importance of communication within the organization from the rank in file up to the executive branches of the said organization.

Literature

Richard M. Steers identified views on the approach to the definition of the leadership: first an attribute of position, second, characteristics of the person and category of behaviour. Steers argued that from the standpoint of understanding, the nature of people at work is to consider leadership as a category of behaviour.

For an organization or group to exist, to survive and to function, effective leadership plays a crucial role. Although leadership is highly related to and vital to management, leadership and management are not in the similar concept. One can serve as an effective manager but lacks of skill of a leader or the opposite. Today, many organization are putting a heavy premium on managers who also possess leadership skill. However, John P. Kottler suggested a view that espouses a rather sunergetic relationship between management and leadership.

Findings

Based from the references of the study, the researcher analytically interpreted that the leadership style of certain bosses, managers, administrators and the likes are bannering authority depending on the nature of his works and assigned priorities.

The researcher further understand that most of a leader are fair and democratic toward his subordinates and followers. Nowadays, they have noticed that this kind of leadership are inherent from those offices especially in the government agency. When referring to the implementation of civil service law, all government officers and employees must exercise the high ethical standards and commitment to the government service.

Conclusion

It has been said that the effective decision making of leaders are very much essential. From this study on leadership, the dynamic process of learning in the organization are based from the ups and downs experiences of the organization. Moreover, these qualities of a leader are prominent in our work environment as a member of the teaching force under the baton of our principal who portrays their abilities and capabilities of not just being our adviser or mentor, much more of being our second mother of father in an institution.
