The $500 million expansion for Peppermill Casinos Inc. – to be completed fall 2008 – will set the standard for northern Nevada casino construction, says Terrence Spampanato, vice president for Pacific-Mountain Contractors. “There is nothing like this in northern Nevada,” he says, and quoting Reno, Nev., Mayor Bob Cashell, “We out-Vegas’ed Vegas.” The 1-million-square-foot expansion gives Peppermill Casinos a new central

plant, two new parking garages, a stateof-the-art events center, a 600-suite hotel tower, a sports book, a new pool deck, spa and nightclub. PacificMountain Contractors is currently finishing the spa, nightclub and pool deck, as well as the front façade remodel and the employee-parking garage. The 200-foot clear span inside the 68,000-square-foot event and convention center is the largest clear span in northern Nevada, Spampanato says.

“The spa is the fourth five-star spa in the country, he adds. “The Peppermill’s fabulous new five-star spa will offer separate relaxation and rejuvenation spaces for women and men in sumptuous surroundings, a full compliment of massage and body treatments, as well as a full spectrum of salon, nail and esthetic services,” Peppermill says. “Our spa is sure to delight every sense in true European surroundings and comfort.” Other additions include the nightclub, which has an infinity pool and waterfall, and Bimini, a Caribbean steakhouse. Spampanato says the levels of the finishes and details in the Tuscanthemed expansion have enhanced the Peppermill to be a very elegant and high-end resort. Some of the materials include Rojo Alicante marble, special wall finish textures, and free-hand artistic painting throughout the expansion. The Tuscan theme “is timeless, very elegant and very popular right now,” he says. ‘There’s a Way’ The $200 million event center and the Tuscan Tower had to be completed in 13 months – a very tight schedule, Spampanato says. “It was in a time when the market was busy,” he adds. No matter what it took, the company was determined to finish the job on schedule,” he stresses.
