The Department of the Navy and Clark Realty Capital have joined to build the first-of-its kind privatized housing development intended for single enlisted sailors in San Diego. Pacific Beacon – the $322 million, multi-tower residential complex – consists of four 18-story towers with 941 dual-master suite apartments intended for up to 1,882 sailors. “What makes this project special is not just the precedent-setting nature of being the first, but even more so, it’s about being customized for the unique

lifestyles of these single sailors,” says Bryan Lamb, development executive with Clark Realty Capital. “When sailors come home, they want to relax and leave behind the worries of a high-stress work environment. Pacific Beacon’s ‘at ease’ design and amenities will help them to do just that so they are better prepared to perform when duty calls.” Because of a serious shortfall in affordable housing and the availability of space for single enlisted sailors – roughly 27,600 live in San Diego – many junior sailors live on their ships while in home port with limited personal space. And, because of the high cost of local housing, mid-grade enlisted sailors who receive a housing allowance generally room with multiple roommates in an

apartment. The Pacific Beacon project will help alleviate this projected shortfall of 7,000 beds. Built on 15 acres at the Naval Station in San Diego, each unit in Pacific Beacon will be available for rent at a rate more reasonable than traditional housing off-site.
