CELL PHONES
We have noticed that a number of children are still carrying cellphones.
WELL DONE
I cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by. We have had a remarkably successful year with most of our pupils. They are the ones we dedicate our energies to. The sporting results have been very good. We have won most of our matches. The few losses have helped to keep our feet on the ground and have prevented us from becoming complacent. The number of children achieving awards and recognition in outside activities is also very pleasing. The cultural successes of our children are to be commended. The chess team achieved excellent results until the play-offs. We now know what we need to do to give King David a really good match next year.
Please bear in mind that these will be confiscated if the children are found using them.
EXAM TIME
We wish all our children success. The Summative week for the Grade 4s and 5s is from 6th to 9th November. Grade 6 and th th 7 will be writing from 13 to 17 November. Please encourage a focussed and disciplined approach to these assessments.
FERNDALE SPAR
Thank you to all who have worked so hard to assist our children.
COLOURING-IN COMPETITION Brittany Gallacher and Christie Woolmington of Grade 4S, won a colouring-in competition and each won a prize as well as money for the school. Well done!

CODE OF CONDUCT

REPLYSLIP My child WILL be attending school on Friday 10th November 2006 ______________________________ Name of child and Class _____________________ Signed by Parent
The importance of Fibre Dietary fibre, is the indigestible part of plant foods, and performs many important functions in the body. Many people still believe that fibre should be limited in a child’s diet, but adequate fibre is as essential in children as it is in adults. Fibre together with adequate water and positive encouragement of regular evacuation can prevent and manage constipation. In addition fibre can prevent colon cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease and improve gut health by encouraging the growth of beneficial bacteria in the colon, and thereby boost the immunity. And apart from its nutritional benefits, fibre consumption also encourages oral and speech development.
THANKS TO RISO
Our sincere thanks go to Chris Rix and Riso Africa for their assistance in making our ‘new-look’ newsletter a reality! If you have ANY highvolume printing requirements (B&W or Colour) you really should give them a call http://www.risoafrica.co.za/
GET INVOLVED
This is just a “heads-up” that we want you to get involved in 2007. Our Bryandale Parents’ Association (BPA) is an essential mechanism serving THREE Primary functions… • Communication (between Parents and Teachers) • Caring (for Bryandalians in need) • Collecting Funds (since govt. gives us very little) And how does this affect YOU the Parent of a Bryandalian? Well, it’s quite simple really, our Parents get involved so they can have a constructive and positive effect on the way things are done in our school. And, while there is a small “core” group that accepts Portfolios for the entire year, we always need additional assistance from lots of Parents to fulfill these three functions. We need help in various ways and you should try and find something that is relatively easy for you to do that perhaps other people are not as well suited to as you are. For example, you may work for a company that provides products and/or services that can assist the school – like gardens, printing, maintenance etc. Or, can assist with products which can be leveraged for fund-raising purposes – for example cold drinks, chips, tents, hot dog stands etc. In this way you get to play a key role in helping Bryandale to provide the best possible education possible while still keeping our school fees amongst the lowest in our area. Or, you may just be a regular mom who can help out a few times during the year by serving coffee and biscuits at school meetings. Or even a regular dad who can man a braai at a fund-raiser. You name it, it helps! Early in next year we’ll ask you to step forward and let us know that you’re both willing and able to contribute in some small way. Perhaps you can even give us an indication of any “special contacts” you may have that make this all so much easier to accomplish? We look forward to working TOGETHER with ALL Parents to make Bryandale the best it can be for our Children.

!
! October 2006 Dear Mrs. Griebenow I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last email you’ll receive regarding these boys from your school. I am the U/11 Rugby coach at Diggers rugby club and I thought it would be nice if we let you know of the boys’ remarkable achievements. The following boys, Rogan de Wit, the twins Tyler and Travis, Alan Hector, Brian Leitch and Aaron Middleton all played for our U/11 B side and they performed extraordinarily well. They sometimes had to play other clubs’ A-sides and still they managed to win these games, and win well! The other boy that represented our A-side was Sheldon de Robillard. Sheldon has been an integral part of our A-side. Last year he played lock and this year we played him at flank, with huge success! Our A-side was unbeaten in the Golden Lions League for junior clubs for the last two years and they had no points scored against them for the past two seasons – not a single try! After their excellent performance in the Lions League the boys were invited to play against the unbeaten winners of the Blue Bulls league, Centurion. Again the boys performed exceptionally well and won the game 29-0! Not only were all these boys instrumental in all our successes but they also impressed with their sportsmanship. I have to congratulate your school with the boys’ behavior on and off the field, they were a real example to the boys from other schools. Not once did they even come close to not showing real sportsmanship. I’m convinced that your school had a huge part to play in teaching the boys these values. Thanks you very much – your school has made our jobs a lot easier… Please be kind enough to acknowledge these boys and their extramural achievements – they really deserve it!!! Kind regards Marco Bothma ISM Managing Director
