Dear Friend I received a letter one morning from one of our crusader friends who lives in Australia, she was writing about our mutual reaction to some dramatic happenings in the world, and then she added these words which reflected her appreciation of nature, down under: “I have just lifted my head to look out at the garden, and I see the beauty of the autumn leaves, the reds, the greens, and the orange and browns. The world is an amazing place. “It’s a beautiful day, fluffy clouds floating across a pale blue sky, a slight nip of frost in the air, and, yes, there is a Kookaburra calling in the distance.” I hope you agree that, every now and then, it is good to lift our heads from work and our daily worries, and take time to look at the wonderful world that is all around us. For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions, or principalities, or powers, all things were created by Him, and for Him. Colossians 1:16

Animal Healing Service 18th August I thought it best to let you know in good time that Margaret and I will be holding another Animal Healing Service. Here at the Sanctuary in Blackpool. Tuesday 18th August from 9.30am through to 3.30pm. If you cannot bring your pet to the Sanctuary then write into us with their name and picture, they will be then placed upon the Altar where both prayers and blessings will be given on their behalf.

Sometimes We Must BE PREPARED TO Make Sacrifices

At the beginning of June my good lady and I visited Eyam, a village in Derbyshire England that was badly affected by the Great Plague of 1665. Even though the disease is mostly associated with its impact on London, the sacrifices made by the villagers of Eyam may well have saved cities in northern England from the worst of the plague. At the time of the plague, the village had a population of about 350. The most important person in the village was the church leader - William Mompesson. In the summer of 1665, the village tailor received a parcel of material from his supplier in London. This parcel contained the fleas that caused the plague. The tailor was dead from the plague within one week of receiving his parcel. By the end of September, five more villagers had died. Twenty three died in October. Some of the villagers suggested that they should flee the village for the nearby city of Sheffield. Mompesson persuaded them not to do this as he feared that they would spread the plague into the north of England that had more or less escaped the worst of it. In fact, the village decided to cut itself off from the outside would. They effectively agreed to quarantine themselves even though it would mean death for many of them.

The village was supplied with food by those who lived outside of the village. People brought supplies and left them at the parish stones that marked the start of Eyam. The villages left money in a water trough filled with vinegar to sterilise the coins left in them. In this way, Eyam was not left to starve to death. Those who supplied the food did not come into contact with the villagers. Eyam continued to be hit by the plague in 1666. The rector, Mompesson, had to bury his own family in the churchyard of Eyam. His wife died in August 1666. He decided to hold his services outside to reduce the chances of people catching the disease. By November 1666, the plague was considered at an end. 260 out of 350 had died in the village but their sacrifice may well have saved many thousands of lives in the north of England. Mompesson did survive. Sometimes we are called upon to make great sacrifices and the village of Eyam was prepared to make that sacrifice.

MY OWN TESTIMONY TO ANSWERED PRAYER

I don’t as a rule publish my own testimonies, but I thought this may be an exception being from my own personal experience and by sharing it with you, it may add strength to your own faith and belief in Divine healing. I myself contacted spinal meningitis at an early age and survived only to be left with a diseased ear. Over the years, right into adult life I underwent three major and two minor operations to remove tumours and to try and correct the problem. Because of constant discharge I had to wear a dry dressing in my ear for most of my life and suffer constant pain. I had resigned myself to the fact that this was a condition that I would have to put up with for the rest of my life. The one morning, just after Christmas 2003 I was sitting at the altar in the Sanctuary. I was taking the morning service along with my prayer partners, and was in deep meditation and prayer when all of a sudden it felt like two large hands had grasped my head covering both my ears and for a moment I experienced total deafness. It seemed to last for a long time but it must only have been seconds. I was shaken by the experience and after the service I mentioned the incident to those present, but soon after the incident was forgotten.

Over the following weeks, I started to notice a change in the discharge from my ear. It appeared to be drying up and as time went on I found I needed to apply the dry dressing less and less in my ear until the day came I stopped altogether. On 5 June that year I had my six monthly check up on my ear with the local hospital ENT consultant. He did an internal investigation and declared the ear was clean and dry. He then arranged for another appointment in six months time. Even as I write this article, my ear has been dry for nearly six years and I have had no pain or discomfort since. The Sanctuary here in Blackpool has been a focus of healing prayer for over 50 years. Visitors often comment on the overriding sense of peace and energy that prevails inside the building. We have had many testimonies of people both observing and experiencing wondrous things happening after they have made contact either by phone, letter, and email or in person. One day I asked the Lord for a sign and He responded – HE, healed me. Thank You Father

YOUR DAY WITH THE FATHER

MONDAY I come into your presence, Father and ask that you help me to be as trusting and close to you as many little children are with their parents. May my life today reflect that you rejoice in my company. May I rejoice in yours.

TUESDAY Love can take many hearts and make them one, uniting them in the love of God: it makes them open, friendly, peaceful, one in mind and heart; it makes them capable of learning the will of God.

WEDNESDAY In busy days of noise and action - and especially when my journey seems long and my energy is spent - lead me to be still, Lord, and discover anew that you are with me.

THURSDAY It is not only amidst our joys and hopes but also in our grief and anguish, Lord that you are with us. Sustain us today in your love.

FRIDAY May my horizon this day, Lord, not be so foreshortened that I notice little. Instead, open my eyes that I may see afar and above as well as in front and beneath me. Lead me to keep my life in perspective and balance and discover that the thread of your presence is interwoven through the events and people of this day.

SATURDAY Not only did people come to Jesus to be healed, but Jesus went to them. "I will come and cure him," Jesus tells the Roman centurion who asks help for his servant. (Mt 8, 7) He even cured people who didn't know who he was. (Jn 5.1-18)

SUNDAY Take everything that happens as coming from the hands of God, who loves you; in this way every trial will become a source of peace and joy since God is not a burden, but rather comfort, joy and cheerfulness.
