The State Rail Authority of NSW, Australia recorded an average fuel saving of 38% on all locomotives and a substantial saving of 42% on the Inter-City Express ( XPT) locomotives. KTM Rail (Malaysia) recorded similar savings by converting to the Banlaw System. Both parties confirmed the fuel saving is due to the fact that there is NO spillage caused whilst locomotives are travelling or during the refuelling operation. In addition to these savings are the obvious benefits to the environment and the greatly reduced risk of fire. There has sometimes been a concern about tank pressurisation as the primary detection source to determine automatic fuel flow shutdown, especially as flow rates are increased to reduce downtime due to larger fuel tank capacities. FillSafe is a electronic level sensing system that provides accurate shut-off without tank pressurisation or spillage, utilising a range of different level sensors including stainless steel level probes and infra red optic sensors. FillSafe allows flow rates up to 1000 l/min to be carried out and automatic shut down with no increase in tank pressure. The shutdown level is extremely accurate and is not affected by different flow rates, head/line pressures or pump type. TM
