XPT Inter-City Express State Rail Authority of NSW Australia

Ho w Does Y our Sy stem Compar e? How Your System Compare? The Banlaw Dry-Break Automatic Refuelling System has demonstrated considerable fuel savings over traditional splash fill methods. The State Rail Authority of NSW, Australia recorded an average fuel saving of 38% on all locomotives and a substantial saving of 42% on the Inter-City Express ( XPT) locomotives. KTM Rail (Malaysia) recorded similar savings by converting to the Banlaw System. Both parties confirmed the fuel saving is due to the fact that there is NO spillage caused whilst locomotives are travelling or during the refuelling operation. In addition to these savings are the obvious benefits to the environment and the greatly reduced risk of fire. Significant improvements are also gained by the increased refuelling rates offered by the Banlaw System, thereby reducing costly locomotive downtime. With the range of compatible fuel monitoring, level sensing and lubrication service systems available, only Banlaw can provide a complete fuel management system for your diesel locomotive fleet.

Benefits of the Banla w Refuelling Sy stem Banlaw System Cost Savings • Dry-Break technology eliminates spillage during connection & disconnection of nozzle, while the Banlaw vent eliminates spillage from the fuel tank whilst the locomotive is travelling. • Simple operation, low maintenance • Quick connect and release fittings • Less refuelling down time - Fast Fill 170-1000 Litres/min. (45-264 U.S. gals/in.) • Fuel security - Accountability of fuel usage and reduced pilferage.

Safe for Operators & the Environment • Easy to use • Bottom filling - No diesel foaming, reduced risk of static electricity & therefore reduced risk of fire • Reliable automatic shut off mechanism • Ability to refuel from ground level • Safe refuelling position for operators • Protects the environment both during refuelling and in transit • Similar technology used on 90% of all open pit mining equipment worldwide • Fuel can only be transferred when nozzle & receiver are fully connected

MAXIMUM RECOMMENDED HEIGHT OF FUEL DISCHARGE TO : 1. REDUCE SPLASHING & HENCE MINIMISE STATIC ELECTRICITY 2. ELIMINATE FOAMING TO MAXIMISE LIQUID CAPACITY OF TANK

Banlaw’s electronic fuel monitoring system, automatically keeps track of fuel and oil input and output, without any manual intervention. Data is then presented in a readily useable form on computer, either on site or at a remote location. The FuelT FuelTrr ack System can provide data on; • Transaction No. • Allocation to a particular fleet/class • Type of fluid used (fuel/oil) • Nozzle used • I.D. of refueller • Time taken for refuelling • Unit No. (vehicle/locomotive I.D.) • Depot identification • Litres dispensed/received • Time and date of transaction • Kilometers/miles travelled • Remote diagnostics/repairs/detection • Machine hours total • Litres of fuel used per hour TM

Banlaw designs, manufactures, installs and services a range of centralised service systems. al System allows the operators The LubeCentr LubeCentral to safely fill and evacuate oil and coolants from a single location at ground level, quickly and without contamination or spillage. • All fittings incorporate Dry-Break Technology to eliminate spillage. • All fittings use a ball locking mechanism to ensure a secure, clean and reliable connection. al eliminates the need for • LubeCentr LubeCentral operators to carry fluid containers and cumbersome equipment onto and around locomotives and vehicles. • No spillage & complete recovery means better Environmental Protection Authority compliance. • The efficient evacuation systems allows for; complete used oil/coolant recovery for total recycling of waste. • Each fitting is unique, therefore each type of fluid/oil cannot be accidently mixed TM

FillSafe

TM

There has sometimes been a concern about tank pressurisation as the primary detection source to determine automatic fuel flow shutdown, especially as flow rates are increased to reduce downtime due to larger fuel tank capacities. FillSafe is a electronic level sensing system that provides accurate shut-off without tank pressurisation or spillage, utilising a range of different level sensors including stainless steel level probes and infra red optic sensors. FillSafe allows flow rates up to 1000 l/min to be carried out and automatic shut down with no increase in tank pressure. The shutdown level is extremely accurate and is not affected by different flow rates, head/line pressures or pump type. TM

Can Y ou A ccount F or All Y our Fuel? You Account For Your Railway networks throughout the world are legally required to reduce environmental damage caused by their operations. Breaches of a variety of antipollution and environmental laws now result in very heavy penalties for offending organisations and individuals. Seventy-five percent of environmental damage caused by the railways is fuel related. Increasingly, railways networks worldwide are turning to the proven class leader in liquid transfer systems, BANLAW.

Banlaw Systems can be used for the filling and evacuation of all types of fluids used by locomotives from distillate to lube oils and coolants. The innovative design of the Banlaw Dry-Break System carries international patents. Together with the specially designed vent, the tank and receiver form a sealed unit which prevents fuel spillage.

by a limiting static pressure measured at the 2” nozzle inlet. Nozzle spring setting is determined by flow rate and head pressure of refuelling application. Actual inlet static pressure must be less than that shown for spring setting. e.g. For BAR800 series: 150kPa @ 500 l/min, require minimum of ML spring setting.
