Library Letter News from the St Marys Community Public Library

From our director

LongLong-Range Planning

W

e are beginning the process of Long Range Planning at the St. Marys Community Public Library. I would like to thank the following people from the community for agreeing to serve on a Focus Group: Robin Willoughby, Judy Von Blon, Dawn Adams, Lora Krugh, Doug Moran, Tom Hitchcock, George Neargarder, Tom Teckman, Scott Evans, and Tami Sanford. Joining this group will be library board members DeWayne Marsee and Kimberlee Pierce and library staff members Jay Miley and Susan Pittman. As members of this Focus Group the participants will give feedback for the selection of service goals for the library. Technology is changing again at the library. A new product called Envisionware will be installed soon. This product will allow patrons to schedule themselves for computer time in our computer lab. In order to do this scheduling, patrons will need to have a library card and also need to have the card with them at the time of scheduling. September is Library Card Sign-Up Month at our library. I would encourage those of you without a card to stop by and to get a card. The first card is free. Lost cards can be replaced for 50 cents. Children must be age 5 or in Kindergarten to get a library card. The card is the ticket to many items that the library owns – books, DVD’s, music CD’s, books on CD, books on tape, magazines and much more. The price is right as you can borrow items at no charge. Finally, the library just received a District Simplified Grant from Rotary District 6600 with matching funds from the St. Marys Rotary Club totaling $2000. The money will be used to purchase library materials in the area of Health and Wellness. The materials will include

Autumn 2006 books, DVD’s and videos. The Literacy Committee from the St. Marys Rotary Club will serve in an advisory capacity for this grant. It is hopeful that materials will be purchased in the next few months. As part of the grant the library will be offering several programs on Health and Wellness. I would encourage you to visit the library, get involved with a program or check out an item. There is a lot going on @ your library.
