Friends of the Library Extend Thanks for Successful Book Sale

The Friends of the Library has completed another successful used book sale during the 2008 Summerfest. The sale allows the Friends to support Library programs, to purchase resources outside of the Library budget, and to present book scholarships to two Memorial High School seniors. The Friends appreciate the support of the community in this endeavor and extend special thanks to Larry Kramer and the St. Marys Hobby Center & Trading Co. for providing a sale site. Co-chairs of the annual used book sale are Mary Dull and Sue Weadock.

“Let’s Talk” Theme: Traveling to Find Meaning “Let’s Talk About It” book discussion for adults features the theme Traveling to Find Meaning. Join us as we read and discuss: Sept. 9 – The Voyage of the Narwhal by Andrea Barrett, scholar Kraig Noble; Oct. 14 – The Life of Pi by Yann Martel, scholar Sally Angel; and Nov. 11 – St. Dale by Sharyn McCrumb, scholar John Bernstein. Sessions begin at 7:00 P.M. Books may be checked out at the Library. Please arrive early for “Let’s Talk” if checking out books. Reservations are requested.

Book Signing Slated Russell Young, 1946 graduate of Memorial High School and author of Living in His Kingdom— Stunned by His Grace: Prose and Poetry, will be at the Library to talk about and sign copies of his book on Tuesday, September 23, at 7 PM. The book is a memoir of his youth in St. Marys and an account of his travels to India, China, and other exotic locales. Copies of the book will be available for $10.

Protect Your Identity Discover the steps you need to protect your identity. Tanya Temple from Three Rivers Federal Credit Union will present a program on identity theft at the Library on Monday, October 20, at 7 PM. This free

program is open to the public. Registration is requested for this program.

Rocket Program Takes Off Frank Klatt, retired aerospace engineer, is speaking about rockets and space shuttles at the Library on Wednesday, October 1, at 7 PM. Klatt will show his collection of model rockets and shuttle hardware. The public is invited.

Movie Nights for Adults Showtime: 7 PM in the Library Meeting Room. Wed., Sept. 24 – Before the Rains. Rated PG-13. Friday, Oct. 3 – Incredible Hulk. Rated PG-13.

What’s New with the Canal? Neal Brady, Executive Director of the Miami-Erie Canal Corridor Association, will speak about the canal and upcoming projects on Thurs., Novermber 6 at 7 PM. This free program is open to the public.

Tuesday Morning Book Group Dates Announced The Tuesday Morning Book Group meets at 10:30 AM in the Library Meeting Room. Beth Keuneke, Adult Services Coordinator, leads the discussion. Books are available at the Library circulation desk. Dates and titles are as follows: Sept. 2—My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult; Oct. 7—The Madonnas of Leningrad by Debra Dean; Nov. 4—Probable Future by Alice Hoffman; and Dec. 2—Wedding by Nicholas Sparks.

Learn @ Your Library: Basic Tatting is Back Learn @ Your Library this spring! Adults are welcome to attend Basic Tatting on Wednesday afternoons: October 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. There is a $15 fee to cover all the materials needed for the sessions. Registration is required as class size is limited to 12.

Computer Classes Feature Using E-mail & Google Library staff member Jay Miley will present free computer classes for adults. Registration is requested. • Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 10 AM OR Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6:30 PM. Using an E-mail Client. Basic computer skills are a prerequisite for this class. • Thursday, Sept. 25 at 6:30 PM OR Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 10 AM. Google Tips and Tricks. Make the most of your web surfing. Must have basic Internet knowledge. • Monday, Nov. 3 at 10 AM. Using the Mouse and Computer Basics. Prerequisites: None. • Monday, Nov. 10 at 10 AM. Windows XP Basics. Grandparents’ Ice Cream Social

• Preschool Story Time—for children ages 3-5 years old: 11:00 AM. Wednesdays. September 10, 17 and 24; October 1, 8, and 29; and November 5, 12, and 19.

On September 8 at 6:30 PM children of all ages and their grandparent(s) are welcome to attend this program of stories and games. Ice cream will be served. Please register for this event.

• Toddler Story Time—for 2-year-olds: 10:30 AM. Thursdays. September 11, 18, and 25; October 2, 9, and 30; and November 6, 13, and 20. • Baby Story Time—for parents and their babies newborn-23 months: 11:00 A.M. Thursdays. September 11, 18, and 25; October 2, 9, and 30; and November 6, 13, and 20.
