24. Land use Area covered by agriculture, woodland, water or river, urban, 2005

Contextual indicator In 2005, 51 per cent of land in the UK was either grass or rough grazing, and 19 per cent of land was covered by crops or left as bare fallow. Other forms of agriculture accounted for 3 per cent of land. Twelve per cent of UK land area was forest and woodland whilst 14 per cent of land area was urban land or ‘land not otherwise specified’.
