By social grade, the proportion of social group E (e.g. Casual labourers, state pensioner, unemployed) experiencing positive feelings was much lower than the average, and the proportion of group AB (e.g. doctors, solicitors, accountants and teachers, nurses, police officers) experiencing positive feelings was much higher than the average. In particular in feeling ‘engaged with what they were doing’, 76 per cent of group AB had felt this way everyday or most days during the last two weeks compared with 58 per cent of group E. The proportion of people in group E regularly experiencing negative feelings was much higher than average with 12 per cent feeling ‘depressed’, 11 per cent feeling ‘lonely’ and 24 per cent feeling like ‘everything was an effort’ everyday or most days during the last two weeks.
