Analysis Questions a) How was this city developed--include the positives and negatives of this development process? This city was developed through the process of urbanization. The positive of this development was that an increase in production was established and factories became more productive and could serve many more people. The down side of this rapid development was that large factories led to pollution, the ground became black, the sky became gray, people died of cancer, and the city became disgusting. b) What "pushed" people into the city? One factor that really “pushed” people into the city was the huge explosion. The huge explosion forced people from their homes and into this nearby city. Here, they would continue their life. c) What "pulled" people into the city? The factor that “pulled” the people into the city was that people saw this urbanization and industrialism as an opportunity. Factories grew more productive, jobs became more available, and cities grew. People saw this grow as a perfect opportunity to start off again in the perfect environment. d) Who got wealth and from where? The factory owners and employers received the most amount of wealth. They would do many things in order to get the most money, including hiring kids and women over men. The kids and women would do just as much work, but the factory owners would only pay them a fraction of the wage they would pay the men. By doing evil tricks like this, factory owners benefited the most out of everyone during urbanization and industrialism. e) Explain what kind of economic, political, and social issues would arise from this kind of development and WHY (2 examples of each)? Economic: At the beginning, the economy was prosperous. Stuff was being created at a much more effective rate, and water and coal factories were being made. But after a while, the economy became bad. Pollution increased, kids and women were hired at very low wages, and increase in population led to food shortage. Political: They would have to take charge, control the population, maintain balance in society and order the construction of new roads, bridges, and homes. We were kinds of like the political leaders when doing this activity and it was up to us to choose wehere to place certain objects like roads and homes.

Social: There was an increase in population, and most of the people were of the lower class, working all day in factories. There was no mobility. f) If you could "control" urbanization resulting from the industrial revolution-HOW and WHY would you do it? I would make the factories not pollute as much. I would use water over coal, and I would control the population. By doing this, I would prevent many problems that arose during industrialization, including food shortage and excessive pollution. This way, not as many people starved and my productivity level would grow faster.
