History of AHRMM 1962 − Begins as the American Society for Hospital Purchasing Agents (ASHPA) 1970 − ASHPA grows to 1,000+ members 1983 − Name changes to the American Society for Hospital Materials Management (ASHMM) 1992 − ASHMM hosts first exhibition in conjunction with the American Hospital Association (AHA)
History of AHRMM 1995 − ASHMM Annual Conference becomes so large that it is independent of the AHA convention 1998 − ASHMM becomes the Association for Healthcare Resource & Materials Management (AHRMM) at its Annual Conference 2001 − April 1, HCRMS ends operations and HCRMS members are welcomed into AHRMM. One, unified voice in the healthcare resource and materials management field is created. 2007 - AHRMM adopted a new mission statement, To Advance Healthcare Through Supply Chain Excellence

Education – Build, adopt, and continue programs that develop essential and executive level knowledge, skills, and practices. Knowledge – Develop and continue resources that create learning and knowledge sharing.
2. VOICE
Advocacy – Identify and influence those issues/environmental factors that impact the supply chain: patients, the profession, and public policy. Collaborative Relationships – Seek and develop industry relationships that strengthen AHRMM’s mission and vision.

Governance – Implement effective board governance strategies and establish planning focused on creating value for members, anticipating future events that could impact the healthcare supply chain, and developing strategic relationships. Membership and Chapter Relations – Develop resources that connect members and create value. AHRMM Foundation/Funding – Advance the profession by funding education, scholarships, and research programs. Financial Stability – Increase and diversify AHRMM’s revenue stream and achieve targeted operating margin.
