Campaign Proposal Campus Access Now (CAN) Resolution WHEREAS students with disabilities face challenges on campus that prevent them from maximizing their university experience, AND WHEREAS many of the University of Ottawa’s facilities are outdated and prevent full access to buildings, activities, and inclusivity on campus, AND WHEREAS the SFUO has made a commitment to the students at the University of Ottawa to support and advance the interests of all students including those with disabilities, Be it resolved that the SFUO campaigns committee adopt a campaign that directly draws attention and awareness to the lack of adequate access on campus. Be it further resolved that the SFUO will support the campaign with materials and resources where possible. Strategy 1. Raising awareness of members of the uOttawa community about the barriers faced by students with disabilities on this campus. 2. Working with the uOttawa administration and their services (such as ACCESS or Physical Resources) to ensure that we are systematically tackling these barriers in a timely fashion. 3. Ensuring that until these barriers are dismantled, there are alternative options for students who are unable to access specified areas and activities on campus, so no student is excluded. Tactics 1. Distribution of Accessibility Survey to help determine most problematic areas, as well as petitioning to demonstrate support for change in these areas. 2. Small informational events in and around campus addressing the most crucial issues for the academic year (ie. Snow removal). 3. Accessibility Awareness Week to take place January 11th-15th 2010. 4. Live performance of a play to draw attention to the inability of accessing the theatre building. 5. Postering campaign around barrier-laden areas. 6. Consistently meeting and working with the administration to achieve short and long-term goals.

Resources 1. Assistance in obtaining funding for events and Accessibility Week if necessary/possible. 2. Commitment to place informative materials, petitions, or surveys at other SFUO outreach events. 3. Assistance with potentially bringing this campaign to the CFS in order to raise awareness and solidarity on a national level.
