THE EFFECT OF GIVING COCONUT WATER AND X-DRINKS TO DEHYDRATION LEVEL OF BASKETBALL PLAYERS IN SMP NEGERI 1 JEMBER

ABSTRACT
Dehydration happen if body fluids is hypotonic, which is the volume of water out so faster than sodium included, so effect of this condition is plasma sodium in high levels called hypernatremia. The goal of this research is to knew and measure the dehydration rate of basketball players in SMP Negeri 1 Jember. This research belonged to pre-experimental studied with Two Group Pretest-Posttest design. Amount of subject in this research was 40 people with purposive sampling technique. Independent variables of this research are coconut water and X-drinks. Dependent variable is dehydration level. Instrument of this research were urine reagent strip for measuring dehydration level, compliance form of fluid consumption and Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) for make sure the fluid consumption. Statistics analysis of research is using SPSS 16.0 with KolmogorovSmirnov test. The results showed there wasn’t effect of coconut water on the dehydration level of basketball players in SMP Negeri 1 Jember (p = 0.717). There wasn’t effect of X beverage on the dehydration level of basketball players in SMP Negeri 1 Jember (p = 0.125). There wasn’t difference effect of coconut water and X beverage on the dehydration level of basketball players in SMP Negeri 1 Jember at the time after exercise or competition (p = 1,000). The conclusion of this research is giving coconut water and X-drinks can’t increase the effectiveness of dehydration level of basketball players in SMP Negeri 1 Jember before and after intervention Keywords: Coconut Water, X-drinks, Dehydration Level
