American Board of Family Medicine 2008 Recertification Examination Performance Report 08/02/2008

Dear Dr This report provides information about your performance on the 2008 Recertification Examination. If you have issues or concerns regarding the content of this report, please contact ABFM by email at [email protected]. The first section of the report provides a brief summary of your examination results. This section provides your Scaled Score, the Minimum Passing Score (MPS), the pass-fail result, and the percentile ranking associated with your Scaled Score. The Scaled Score is a transformation of the number of correctly answered questions that adjusts for the difficulty of the test in such a way that the results of different versions of the examination have the same meaning. Scaled Scores can range from 200 to 800 and are based on your responses to the questions in the performance modules and the General Family Medicine portion of the examination. The MPS is the lowest possible score necessary to pass the examination. The MPS is re-evaluated periodically by the ABFM Board of Directors. This evaluation is accomplished by conducting a standard-setting exercise with large groups of ABFM Diplomates who rate the difficulty of each examination question. These ratings are aggregated and analyzed to produce a recommended MPS and then are presented to the Examination Committee of the Board of Directors. The ABFM Board of Directors has charged the Examination Committee with the responsibility of final approval of the MPS for each examination that we administer. The Percentile Rank is the percentage of other examinees in your group who have scores equal to or lower than your score. For example, a percentile rank of 70 indicates that 70 percent of examinees have an examination score at or below your score. The remainder of the report is divided into four sections that provide raw score (count) indicators of your performance when compared with national norms.

Performance by Module uses raw scores to summarize how well you performed on the two 45-question modules that you selected. General Family Medicine Items uses raw scores to summarize your performance on the 260 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that were given to all candidates. Performance by Organ System/Blueprint Category details your performance on the General Family Medicine items, with the 260 questions categorized by major organ systems and other content domains defined by the ABFM examination blueprint. For blueprint details, https://www.theabfm.org/cert/CertRecertExaminationOutline.pdf. Performance by Clinical Category describes your performance on the General Family Medicine items with the 260 questions categorized in nine major clinical domains.
