SALT LAKE CITY 9-19-08

HA77Y HOLIDAYS TO ALL OF 765 Hello friends We hope that this finds you doing well now that winter is upon us. Back here in Nevada it has become quite cool; ffireragehigh temp. around 47 deg. The three of us are doing quite well with the exception of our achesand pains; My back, of course and Audrey's balanceproblem and weakness;she needspractically constant help whenever we go somewhere. Dan is doing good too, he helps around the house a lot and both him and I still enjoy taking in the "perks" and freebiesthat we get at the certajn casinos. We eat one meal out about 6 days out of sevenmost all of them at some kind of discount or "two for one". It has been nice putting together this newsletter becausea few more of you have sent me letters on your astivities this season. We had a greatreunion in Salt Lake City. Joe and JeanAstle with the help from Sue Hamilton and her daughter Sheryl and her husbandPerry did a good job, everything went perfectly, it couldn't have been any better. The bus trip was an all day affair but well worth it. The trip to the island in Salt Lake for lunch and the museums at the Rail Road station were great. Also, the trip to the Kennecot Copper mine was something to see; (What a hole in the ground!) It is the largest open pit mine in the world, it was nice to see. Dan and I went to seethe rehearsalof the Mormon TabernacleChoir on Friday night, this was just the rehearsal,we can only imagine what the actual performance was like. Several members of our group went on Saturdaynight to seeit, they received free tickets and they all raved about it definitely one of the highlights of the trip! Dick Lund will be the host of the next reunion in Bremerton Washington. He has startedplanning it and it soundslike it'll be a great one! He has waterfront property on Puget Sound and is thinking about having a Clam Bake on his property; that would be a very nice addition to the trip. Hope we all can make that one. Again have a great Christmas And New Years Hollidays. Audrey, Bob and Dan

MINUTSS OE 2OO8 7 65 fRSB REUNIObI SALT LAIffi CITY, UTAI{ SEPTEMBER I7.2I,2008

The 765 TRSB Reurion Group met in Salt Lake City, Utah, September 17-21,2008." The meeting was opened by the President Joe Astle, who led the group in the Pledge of Allegqance tc the flag. NEW BUSINESS: We had an excsllent Reunion. There were 36 present, ffid this was a happy, fun reunion. Many thanks were extended to Joe and Jean Astle, Sue Allen Hamilton and her daughter Sheryl and Son-In-Law Perr)' Schneider. They did an excellent job in selecting our hotel and getting special accommodations for us. The Rernrion sites are drastically changing the way fhey handle the Reunions now. Due to this, we have found it necessary to make some changes in how we access our members for the Reunions. The following

recornmendations, which u/ere made a couple of years ago, were approved by all

present. A deposit or full payment must be made by earh msmber attending 90 day before kickoff date. 2. Full payment must be made 30 days before reunion date. 3. In case of a cancellation,no money will be refrrnded until after thg,reupi.oJ. and then only if funds are available. Our group does not want to put any reunion coordinators in any awkward positions without money to cover all e4penses. 1.

All officers and members voted unanimously on this. We have to be able to cover ourselvEssince we have to guaranteethe number to be present for all events. A site far 2009 was next on our agenda. Dick Lund was the first to take the floor. He expressed his desire to have the reunion in Bremerton, Washingfbn (outside Seattle). Sue Allen Hamilton then addressed the floor and said she was speqking for Irv and Elaine Harris, and they would like to have the 'Washington won out. reunion in St. Louis, Mo. again. President Joe Astle called for a vote. Bremerton, Bill Hill made the motion that we accept Dick Lunds invitation and the 2009 reunion would be in Bremerton, Wa. Motion was 2odby Bob Kalan.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH Sept.27-2L,2008 (The Bee Hive State) Excitement was in the air for a day or two, As Bill and I readied ourselves to come and see you.

Imagine being able to swim and never sink. Just remember you don't ever want to take a drink.

For tbose of you who missed the event, It was awesome, enlightening and and time well spent.

Our tour director was a very informed gentlemarg raised here in Salt Lake. He talksd, explained and answered any and all our questions for our sake.

Ben & Nancye and Bill and I left Nashville early Wednesday And took to the sky.

Antelope Island (in the middle of the Great Salt Lake) was where they chose for our lunch. This was a great site to photograph from, which suited our bunch.

Southwest had a straight flight which was perfect for us, Those multiple plane changes will make even a good man cuss. By Wednesday evening we l{/ere settled in, and eagerly awaited our tour to begin Our group this year was small, but our enthusiasm was high; As off we went to see whatever came by. Wednesday night P.J. Chang's was suggested for our dinner site. Believe you me they know how to do things up right. Early Thrnsday morning we took off to see Ogden, Utah and the Great Salt Lake. We knew from the start there were lots to see and several hours it would take. Ogden, Utah was to be our first stop, Where we could browse, sightsee and shop. The Old Union Station is now a Museum of sorts. There was something for everyone, old Browning Bffiq antique cars & trains, and local arts. The Salt Lake flats and Salt Lake itself were beautifirl and serene. It's something I felt honored to have seen.

The next stop was The Bingham Canyon Copper Mine. It is fhe largest open pit mine in the world and most high tech of its kind. Being familiar with the making of cement (from limestone) Made me wish rnore hours here is could have spent. Thursday evening we walched the Great Mormon Choir and Symphony Orchestra Rehearse. This was all free and didn't put a dent in your pwse. After the rehearsal back to the hotel we wsnt. And Bingo with our friends was time well spent. Friday was a free day for all to sight see on our own. I like the tours, so f'm informed on what I'm shown. There are many fine hotels in and around; But none could compare to "The Plaza" that Jean and Joe found. We were in the middle and and watking distance of everything. If you were interested in history the Museunr was half a block away. If you wanted to fack your roots, the Library was just 3 minutes eway.

The Great Mormon Temple, and Tabhernacle \ryerejust across the street. Everyone rve met there was so informed and pleasant to meet. We couidn't go inside the Temple, but all other buildings you couid tour. You can bet I took all of them in for sure.

OUR LOVE GOES OUT TO EACH OF YOU AND WE WISH YOU GOD'S GT]IDANCE IN ALL TTIAT YOU DO. LET US IIEAR FROM ALL OF YOU.

The gardens 1ryeremanicured and the brass shined like gold. Beiieve any good stories about these building you are told.

HAVE A GREAT 2009.

Friday night'was our banquet and auction which we look forward to. We just fili up ow tanks and buy an item or fwo.

JAN{HSGAR}NHR ACTOR KOREAN WAR VETERAI\ Dear Fellow American: More than 50 years after I was wounded in Korea, I never thought I'd have to tell young people that Amefiea fought in that conflict. It tr-uly is "The Forgotten War." .That's why I urge you to join me in becoming a Founding Member of the Korean War National Museum. -As a Founding Member, yorl will make it possible for t*day's young people and future generations - - to learn the real, often untold stories of ordinary young men * aften just boys, really - - wha answersdtheir country's call and becametrue heroes. Veterans of the Korean War have been largely ignored for over 50 years. The Korean War National Museum will give our veteransthe recognition they deserve, and pass their story to future genetations. Schaolbsoks tell the story from the perspective of the generals. And those exploits will be tald here, too. But the Korean War National Museurn will emphasizethe sacri{ice of the comlnon soldier - - and prsssrve their trnique stories. Now that we're losing over 1000 veteransa day,it's more important than ever that we preserve their stories . . . befate it's too late. These soldiers left the comforts and freedom of home to brave the snow, the rnud, and sweltering jungle heat - as well as the enemy. Many never returned home or came back pefinanently disabled from their combat experiences. Their stories need to be told! That'swhy I urge you to join me in becoming a Founding Mernber of the Korean War National Museum. Sincerely,

JamesGarner .War Veteran Korean Purple Heart ReciPient p.S. I,ve askedmy fiiencls at the Korean Wbr National Museum to let me know when you respond.Pleasehelp out the best you can.
