Greater protection for vulnerable people in the ACT
Canberra Nara Candle Festival
The ACT Government is seeking community comment on a proposed system of background checking of people working with vulnerable people in the ACT.
Enjoy the spectacle of more than 2,000 shimmering candles at the Canberra Nara Candle Festival as we celebrate the 16th anniversary of our Sister City relationship with Nara, Japan.

This festival of friendship and goodwill offers plenty of free entertainment, including Japanese musicians and performers, fun activities to entertain the kids and a delicious range of Japanese cuisine. Enjoy the Official Candle Ceremony from 6.30pm followed by the lighting of more than 2,000 candles in Canberra’s Nara Park.

Parking is available in the Parliamentary Zone, with a free shuttle bus running every 15 minutes to Nara Park. Public parking is not permitted in the Hyatt Hotel car park, with the exception of disabled access.

The ACT Government has agreed to relocate the site of the Islamic School of Canberra and seeks feedback from key stakeholders, particularly residents of Weston, on the use of the current CIT School of Horticulture in North Weston as a possible site for the school. The ACT Government will be holding a drop-in information session to discuss a proposed site for the Islamic School of Canberra. Material from site investigations will be on display, including a traffic and parking study, environmental site assessment, and landscape and tree assessment. Then plan to include a guided tour of the Canberra International Arboretum and Gardens.
A design workshop will be held on 24 September to consider land use, building height and density, potential supermarket location, road hierarchy and open space areas in the Dickson centre.
Tours leave from Floriade at 11.00am and 1.00pm, take about one and half hours, and return to Floriade.
