Belconnen town centre improvements – Joynton Smith Drive closed The ACT Government, in partnership with Westfield, is implementing significant improvements to the Belconnen town centre giving people better access to the shopping centre, improved public transport with simpler bus routes, and easier pedestrian access to the town centre. As part of Westfield Belconnen’s upgrade, which includes the construction of a new bus station integrated into the western entrance of the shopping centre, the red pedestrian bridge will be relocated approximately 100 metres closer to Benjamin Way and will provide continuous pedestrian access from the Lathlain street car park to the level 3 entrance of the centre. On Monday 10 August 2009 Joynton Smith Drive will be closed to allow for preparatory works on the relocation of the red pedestrian bridge. Access will be maintained at both ends of Joynton Smith Drive to service the existing Westfield shopping centre car parks. During these works pedestrian access will be available to the shopping centre from the underpass on Lathlain Street near the Police Station as well as off Benjamin Way. Signs will be posted to alert people of the temporary access arrangements. For further information on the Belconnen town centre improvements visit www.tams.act.gov.au or phone Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.
