SAT., AUGUST 1ST ~ MOTORCYCLE RIDE TO BENEFIT NORTHERN TIER CAMP CADET PROGRAM GALETON, PA The Northern Tier Camp Cadet Program and Larry’s Sport Center have joined together for a day full of fun activities. The motorcycle ride registration is from 9am-11am at Larry’s Sport Center, 5 mi. West of Galeton, Pa. There will be a short blessing of bikes before departure at 11am. The ride starts and finishes at Larry’s Sport Center. The ride is approximately 75 miles long with one stop in Cross Forks. The cost is $20 per bike. The price includes the ride, meal and door prizes. This ride is open to all brands of motorcycles as well as any road legal vehicles wishing to help this great cause. The Camp Cadet Program helps fund a week long camp for 12-13 year old youths in Potter, Tioga and Cameron Counties. The camp is held the last week in June at the Mansfield University. The purpose of the camp is to give the area’s youth a better understanding of different branches of Law Enforcement, and their practices and procedures. At the end of the ride there are many activities and attractions planned; there will be a Chinese Auction, featuring Darien Lake passes, massage, gift certificates to local merchants, Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl framed picture, handmade items and other items to numerous to mention, 50/ 50 raffles and handmade wooden porch swing raffle. The PSP helicopter will land at Larry’s, local fire and ambulance equipment, a vintage PSP car and a DJ will be on hand for entertainment. The Lewisville Lodge will be doing kid’s finger printing and other child identification records also. The dinner will be pulled pork barbecue sandwiches, with baked potatoes, baked beans and dessert and drink available to the public for $5. Please come out and help us raise money for this wonderful program for our local youth. Reese Witherspoon’s next is “Pharm Girl.” It’s supposed to be a comedy about a girl who gets a job at a powerhouse pharmaceutical company and learns all about the “underbelly” of the business. Personally, I can’t see how anything to do with drugs can be funny after all the catastrophes we’ve had from “drugs” in the past couple of years. However, as I always say, “we’ll just have to wait and see what they get out of this.” Many femmes in the movie industry should take a page from Annette Bening’s book. An excellent actress, great mother, loving wife and a GOOD woman, she recently took time off from her busy life to lecture young thespians on the art of acting. Bethany is pursuing a nursing career at Alfred State. In 1999, Bethany began raising Guiding Eyes Penelope, a black Labrador puppy. Volunteer puppy raisers provide the foundation for the many life lessons a guide dog will need to master. They keep a puppy for 12-16 months, offering countless socialization experiences and a warm family structure. When the dog is 18 months old, it returns to Guiding Eyes for formal guide dog training. Over the past ten years, many guide dog puppies have been raised in the Williams household. Aida, Olga, and Mackie have all gone on to be working guides, providing independence for their blind and visually impaired handlers. Regina received the high honor of becoming a brood, and has since produced countless generations of future guide dogs. Bethany and her family recently completed raising Harlow, who has chosen an alternative career from guide work. Harlow is in training for Heeling Autism, a Guiding Eyes service dog program; this special dog will go on to provide safety and companionship to a child with autism. Bethany speaks of the lessons learned through raising puppies. “I know I can start an endeavor with no prior experience and succeed. I learned that the elements of success include being dedicated and willing to learn; everything else will fall into place.” When asked about what it’s like to say goodbye to these wonderful dogs, Bethany’s answer reflects her concerned and compassionate nature. “While my heart has endured nine tearful goodbyes to the pups that have forever left paw prints on my heart, I will continue to love and let go, because it is blessing the lives of my fellow mankind. Bowyer Must Keep Up -Or Else Clint Bowyer finished 29th in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. He can’t afford another misstep in the eight races leading up to NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup. After the first six races of the season, Bowyer ranked second in points. Now he’s 16th and has eight weeks to work his way into the top 12 and make the Chase. Kasey Kahne presently occupies 12th place. Bowyer trails him by 135 points. He’s still got time, but it’s not going to be easy. Two years ago, Bowyer finished third in the Chase. Last year he was fifth. At age 30, Bowyer is one of NASCAR’s bright young drivers. He came up driving the dirt tracks near his home-

town, Emporia, Kan. He won races in Loudon, N.H., in 2007 and Richmond, Va., in 2008. Now, however, Bowyer faces a stern challenge. A year ago his team, Richard Childress Racing, placed all three of its drivers in the Chase. This year, at least for now, all four (Casey Mears was added) are outside the top 12. What’s it going to take to make the Chase? “Just be consistent,” said Bowyer. “I’m fairly confident we can get at least two of us in. You know, (Jeff) Burton has been on a little bit of a down slide, but I feel like we, with the ‘33’ team, have really capitalized on learning some things and had a good, at least a solid, last few weeks. “I think we’ve stopped the bleeding, so to speak, on the bigger race tracks, the mile and a halfs (like the next stop, Chicagoland Speedway). ... We had some bad luck and had 250 or 300 points wiped out from right underneath of us there within a month, and it takes a while to get those points back.” Bowyer, by the way, is a fan of NASCAR’s new “double-file restarts” rule. “We are all about our fans,” he said. “We can’t do this
