The BN federal government ought to keep a close eye on all those groups let loose in the country by various political organisations and parties each with an axe to grind. The 1Malaysia concept should be focused at these groups of people and less on the general population. The authorities in Putrajaya ought to remember that just a decade ago, the island of Penang was rocked by several unwanted incidents. It all started over a minor disagreement among some alleged noise near a place of worship and soon young people started pelting each other and passers-by with missiles. Then others from the mainland came over to join the fray. A few were in cars crossing the Penang bridge and police managed to arrest them after weapons were found inside their vehicles. However, a number of these people came over in motorcycles and these people soon rode all over the streets attacking pedestrians and smashing roadside stalls with parangs. The police failed to stop them and many of those arrested later were actually innocent people caught up in the mayhem and not these thugs. The government ought to keep a very close tab on the situation in Penang especially around this coming August 3 which is a Monday. On the weekend just before this date, the authorities should keep an eye on the traffic entering the island via the Penang bridge. The police and the JPJ must set up roadblocks at strategic locations to examine as many road users as they could. They should watch out for all those who could be using alcohol or drug stimulants. Some incidents in Penang recently have clearly demonstrated that there are individuals here who are fully ready to put the safety and security of law-abiding people aside just to satisfy their narrow political agendas. There were even those who went around criticizing all the wrong persons and using inflammatory words and sentiments. As if they had the free licence to denigrate and insult others. What is wrong with them ? Are they totally ignorant of the 1Malaysia concept ? Have they never heard of the words 'consensus', 'discussion' and 'rule of law' ? These people think that others owe them the air that they breathe in and therefore others must pander to their whims and fancies. These people are no more than the crankiest kind typically found in any society and do not deserve any form of attention at all. The authorities instead should pay strong attention to the safety and security of all law-abiding citizens and ensure that no potential troublemaker is able to create havoc. And the police must do their duty. The police must monitor all the motorists and motorcyclists entering the island and set up checkpoints along all the main streets and thoroughfares. There should never be any repetition of the scenes of those days a decade ago where armed youths roamed the streets on motorcycles smashing and slashing.
The people in Putrajaya ought to re-examine whether they have been all the while barking up the wrong tree and focusing on all the wrong groups even as they churn out one neat, fanciful slogan after another. There, in Putrajaya, the Information Ministry keeps everyone on edge with stories and themes from periods identified with prehistory but truth about the current threats to peace and order in society are totally neglected. Perhaps that is how they interpret the meaning of 1Malaysia. Concentrate on the irrelevant and cut out the truth. That could explain why opposition and minority politicians are currently facing very severe harassment and pressure from many quarters without any respite whatsoever. Even the dead are at risk of facing continued insults and insinuations from these quarters. These quarters conveniently forget that the minority and opposition people have always gotten a bad deal in this country. They are always the first to taste the unpleasant measures meted out in the name of ensuring justice and obedience to the law. But the mainstream politicians get to be free to do what they want. All the time. Is this actually 1Malaysia ? To the ordinary citizen, 1Malaysia means a united, harmonious and safe society, not one where thugs ruled the streets and politicians could employ mob power to put fear into the hearts of their opponents. Perhaps the government has got it all wrong with the present concept. In that case, we might need a new one. Call it 1Malaysia II. That 's right. The government must walk the talk. The safety and security of the ordinary citizen is truly paramount and no political group or party in the country should be allowed to create havoc just to gain some political mileage. We do not want another Colombo, Baghdad, or Karachi or Sydney in our midst. No thanks. The authorities must monitor the situation closely this Aug 3 as well as the preceding weekend ( Sat & Sun, 1 and 2 Aug). In our residential area, weekends are usually full of youths on loud bikes roaring here and there right into the night and early morning hours without fear or worry about any police presence. Despite the fact that the police station is only less than a km away. It is not a pleasant situation indeed. Wake up and protect the law-abiding citizen !!! Start now !!!
