Ignatious is 14 year old. He is in P7 at Kamwokya PS, Kampala. Young Talk interviewed Ignatious about his feelings. He says: ‘‘My oes not provide me with anything apart from school fees. ad about children who have what I do not have and those feat me in class. At times I feel like hiding their books so y fail to read, but I have never done it.’’
Just like Ignatious, you may have felt like this before. Anger and jealousy are examples of strong bad feelings. Other examples are envy, hate, sadness, depression, fear and grief. Everyone gets bad feelings. It is natural. But you can control the way you feel. This helps you feel happier and live well with other people. Read Namatovu’s story and learn from it.
Envy is when you wish to have what somebody else has.
When my friends perform better than me, I work arder. If they have good things, I ask my mother to buy me the same. If she refuses, I save my breakfast money and buy it, if it is cheap.” Namatovu Hiba, Kamwokya Islamic PS, Kampala. Join your friends and share knowledge instead of feeling bad and small.
Lessons from Namatovu’s story: You do not have to feel bad about what your friends can do or have. This feeling is called jealousy.
Do not let bad feelings hurt you or others.
Let the good things your friends have or do push you into working harder, just like Hiba.
Feelings like jealous and anger can bring bad habits like stealing, quarreling DQGÀJKWLQJ7KLVLVEDG

for adults and not children. You and your girlfriend are still young. You are exposing yourself to the risk of HIV/STD and unwanted pregnancy. Do you know that it is a crime to have sex with a girl below 18 years? Please do not have sex with her or anybody else. Concentrate on your studies. Is it true that if a girl misses her menstrual periods, she is pregnant? Atwebembeire B, 12, Kazo Parent’s School, Mbarara Pregnancy is the common cause of missing periods. There are a few other causes of missed periods like diseases or when a person is still developing and the menstrual cycle is not yet stable. However like I said, if a person has had sex, most common reason for a missed period is pregnancy.
