LEVEL 5 STUDENTS WRITING LOG FIRST PERIOD
Dear student. Welcome to level 5. We are happy to have you this semester and to be part of your learning process. Here, you will find the instructions with all the activities you have to accomplish during the first period. It is important to be responsible with all of them in order to have a good performance during this semester. The main objective of the writing log is that you can integrate the grammar topics covered in class to put them in practice in your independent work. As a student, you will understand the importance of the process fully and see that the process is just as important as the product. Your writing log will be your self-assessment of your independent work, as much as you take time for accomplishing your tasks, your grades will be better. This folder will be the reflection of your work in the first period and how much dedication you gave to your English class. Criteria for your writing log To hand in the folder the date the teacher asks for. To have your activities in a very organized and neat folder with a pin. To have all activities complete. To use a same color pen or pencil. To have a clear handwriting. To make corrections when it is necessary. To use capital letters at the beginning of a sentence and ends with a period. The exercises have to be done in a correct way.

Choose an article from the databases of the university. This one needs to be easy for you to understand and interesting. With a marker underline the key words that help you to understand the text. With another marker underline the main ideas of the article. Choose 5 words you don’t understand and look for a definition at the dictionary, write an example using the unknown words. Activity Look at your article and identify verbs in past. If your article is in present you are going to choose 15 verbs from the text and you are going to make a list with their present - past and past participle. Write their meaning in Spanish. Activity Write the body of your paragraph, you are not going to write the descriptive paragraph, but the body of it. Write a topic sentence of your article, the possible supporting ideas and what your conclusion could be. Write a descriptive paragraph of your article taking into account the body you wrote down in the previous class. Activity Identify some phrasal verbs from your text. If you identify a phrasal verb, you have to write the definition and an example. Answer the following questions, taking into account your article, using the passive voice: When was the article written? Answer: My article was written in 1994. What was the name of the publisher used? What was the title used in your article? Who was the article written by? When was the article published? What were the main ideas mentioned in the article? Completes the chart using the verbs. Chooses 5 verbs to write a short paragraph. Makes correction of the short paragraph. Underlines the phrasal verbs from the article.
