At present, the US lawmakers are seen as very carefully doing a PR rehearsal for the benefit of people like premier Wen and some others so that the money river now flowing into the US would not in any way suddenly dry up. While AIG is relishing its right to fat bonuses, the President has to rack his brains as to where he's gonna find the dough to support his latest efforts to revive the collapsed economy and, Wen has to grapple with the dire prospect that China might soon get its poor testicles squeezed for more cash to buy even more US Treasury bills. Coupled with that is another equally unpleasant situation now just unfolding on the other side of the Atlantic. European nations are up on their feet intent on pressing the BRIC countries to inject more funds into the IMF with the hope that the East Europe 'banana republics' would be kept temporarily alive or at least not getting further than the ICU stage and straight into the morgue. These banana republics are sinking much faster than their West Europe counterparts had anticipated and any potential social unrest could really undermine the fearsome military juggernaut called Nato. Countries like China, Brazil, Japan and others are shaking in their boots right now, what with the West Europe eyes looking intently at their wallets. Wen's nightmare Pt B has just started to manifest itself. And it's still very early in the year. And we know that the yearly late summer typhoons and devastating floods have not arrived yet. Things can only be going to get worse from now on. Now to the coast of China. US naval ships are still prowling around the edge of China's coasts, from the northern waters to the southern waters off Hainan, which is home to the frontline units of the PLA air force and navy. The US Pacific command has just sent a Aegis-class destroyer to back up the American spy ships with the intent to stare down the Chinese navy at their very own doorstep. Wen's dilemma is now which way to go. Continue providing the flow for the river of money and add to China's vulnerability or use the money to shore up domestic efforts to improve China's resilience and insure China's future. Both choices are bound to cause friction with many in and outside the country. But one thing is definitely unavoidable for Wen. He must, nightmare or not, build up China's defence against the naval menace posed by the US Pacific Fleet. This Pacific fleet, like the other components of the American military, behaves like a semi-independent entity of the US nation. They generally tend to do what they like, including the use of gunboat brinkmanship against a sovereign nation which has meant them no harm whatsoever. Wen must be fully conscious of this very dangerous threat to his country's safety and security. Not to be so would amount to absolute and total abdication of responsibility as a leader. China must never forget how European and later, Jap warships were able to sail up and down China's coasts (and even rivers) delivering their deadly broadsides against a helpless population. It must not be allowed to happen again. The US Pacific fleet would surely be at the forefront of any future naval flottila sent to attack China. This fleet has the latest warships and
aircraft. Also, it has the ability to mount a multi-prong offensive with or without assistance from puppet navies. China's present surface fleet would not last more than five days against such an adversary. The PLA has a creditable fleet of anti-ship attack aircraft but the air force is in no way able to guarantee control of the country's airspace. As such, the PLA navy must now plan & build a fleet of super destroyers or battle cruisers in the 15,000 to 20,000 ton class with sophisticated multi-level air defences and heavily armoured hulls to counter the ships and planes of the US Pacific fleet. Later on, when China is freed of the financial shackles which bind her at present, the PLA navy must acquire aircraft carriers. Such carriers would be useful to move airpower up and down the coasts besides being just perfect for chasing off any spy boat or marauder warship and thus put an end to the long-running insolence of the US Pacific Fleet commanders. In the meanwhile, China should establish a large fleet of aircraft that can loiter in the air for long periods of time and stay aloft at slow speeds. Helicopters could be used but propeller planes are a much better alternative. These planes could carry a single anti-ship missile each and fly slowly at near sea level. Such aircraft would prove useful to counter hostile warships trying to put on a show of intimidation within Chinese territorial waters. Just think; a pack of lemurs can drive off a snake away from their burrows when they harry the animal behind its tail. The US military has never been under the full control of the man in the White House. Many years ago, there were stories that John Kennedy was the target of inner circle bigshots in the American miltary-industrial complex because he was regarded as being too soft on America's rivals. While stories remained as stories, it's a fact that the US military is like a government-within-a-government and therefore it poses a mighty threat to the peace and security of other sovereign nations. Wen must never lose sight of this. Better to endure a nightmare or two rather then submit your people to slavery at the point of an evil warships's gun. It is most galling that such brazen and shameless conduct by the armed men & women of the US is allowed to take place at someone else's house or door taking into regard that these people often liked to call themselves the 'defenders of freedom'. Pirates and buccaneers would be more appropriate. History has a lot of very useful lessons for people like Wen. Never let it go to waste. Never be too gullible and get tricked by friendly smiles. In the past, for many people who lived in the rural areas near the forest, the last smile they saw was the smile of a man-eating tiger.
