Weekly Wrap-up By Mr Phillips Progress and participation was seen in week 3. Although it was just a 4 day week, most classes were able to accomplish much. Just yesterday, the 7th grade girls were in the fitness room getting a great workout. Ingrid Melendez, Imoni Thomas, and Jocelyn Reyes were pumping iron to improve their fitness. These girls almost made a complete circuit around the room, but were stopped short due to lack of time. Don’t worry girls, the fitness room will be a regular part of the P.E. week. The room may even stay open after school in the near future.
Issue 2 September 10th 2009 My hats off to 1st period boys who were able to maintain focus throughout the 4 day week. DCBAS testing is never easy, especially after a 3 day weekend. This group really listened well during class before testing took place. We were able to make progress in our soccer unit, complete our “Wellness” lesson in health, and even learn a new fitness game “Safety Tag.” I had no idea that Tony Hayes was that fast! He looked lightning quick as he darted across the gym floor. Great progress and participation 1st period. The gentleman of 5th period only had 3 days of P.E. this week. On Tuesday, we introduced cone agility work, which will be one part of the Soccer GRASPS. Thursday was spent reviewing Class Norms. These can never be forgotten. Friday will be the 5th day of our soccer unit.
2nd period eagerly waits for a warm-up. Speaking of the ladies, how about 2nd period who added a new student to their roster this week. These girls did a great job working collaboratively in groups during Health on Wednesday. Emoni Williams, Mariana Reyes, Bryonna Adams, and Lucy Navarrete worked well together as they completed Character Action Cards. I was able to identify a leader, and saw great support from each member of this group.
Thank you to all my students who brought their parents out for Back to School night. I was able to meet parents and guardians for Mario and Mariana Reyes, Pablo Garcia, Kurt Lee, Yovany RomeroSorto, David Valencia, Anely CamposVentura, and Jessica Melendez. I really enjoyed speaking with them and encourage all students to bring parents in the future. Don’t forget students. Sourcebooks are a must. If you do not have one, you must bring one or buy one immediately. Also, I have student picture boards for the health room. If this is something that you would like to do, please pick up a board. That’s all for now, enjoy the weekend.
