Day Care receives high marks In May, the day care center underwent an assessment through the Department of Human Services as part of the star quality program in which all Tennessee child care programs must par ticipate . Classrooms are randomly selected for the assessment representing an infant/ toddler group and a preschool group. This year Young Toddler Room One and Young Preschool were picked.

We are very proud to report that the results from the assessment were phenomenal! Young Toddler Room One earned a score of 5.83 and Young Preschool a remarkable score of 6.55, making our center score an impressive 6.19. To offer a comparative perspective a score of 1 means inadequate care, a score of 3 means minimal care, a score of 4 means average care, a score of 5

means good care and a score of 7 means excellent care. Statewide, 4.29 is the average ITERS (infant/Toddler) score and 4.80 the average ECERS (Preschool) Score.

WORSHIP ON THE ROOF JULY 26 @ THE LOFT

RESUMES 1ST WED. OF AUG.

Day Care (cont.) The assessments measure “best practice” and the quality of care in the following areas: space and furnishings, personal care routines (including health and safety), language-reasoning and listening-talking, activities, interactions, and program structure. A center score of 5 is required for programs to secure a Three Star Rating in the Assessment category of the Report Card. The Report Card evaluates seven quality indicators – the Director’s Experience and Training; the Teacher’s Training and Professional Development, the Center’s Use of the Tennessee Early Learning Standards, Parent/Family Involvement; Group Sizes and Ratios, Actions Taken to Address Teacher Retention/ Compensation; and the Assessment. McKendree is recognized once again as a Three Star Center with three stars earned in each category. According to DHS, “a classroom that receives an overall score of 5 or higher is providing the kind of care that gives children what they need to be successful in life.” We are extremely proud of our fine teachers and the efforts they make as early care professionals to offer the highest quality of care to our beautiful children. Thank you McKendree family for supporting our day care through your continuous prayers. Echoing Stephen Handy from July 5th worship, we strive to “bring our best” as we serve the Lord (Exodus 23:19a). Based on this report, know that your church’s day care ministry is bringing its best as we educate our future leaders and interact with their families. The Vine also recognizes Cindy Ligon in leading her team as being recognized as one of Tennessee’s best! Also, thank you Cindy for providing The Vine with this excellent story! Please send us your stories, content and accounts of what God is doing in your life!

Info Center materials Since Sunday, June 28 you may have noticed in either the main foyer or back hallway the McK Ministry Info Centers. Although the design and exact location of these centers are only in the first phases of serving members and guests to the church, we need as much info about our ministries to fill up these shelves as possible. If you are part of or are heading up a ministry effort at McKendree, please submit all details about it to the church office. The McKendree Communications team can also assist you in editing and designing a display or brochure. We also welcome any ministries that you may be a part of or support that people can become involved with that aren’t necessarily labeled as official McKendree ministries. Examples of these can be missions, movements or causes.

Mosaic Downtown Fellowship relaunch In a bold effort to reach as many people in the metropolitan area for Christ as possible, Stephen Handy is expanding his initial idea of Mosaic Downtown Fellowship (held every 2nd Saturday of each month from Nov. ’08-Jun. ’09 in McK’s worship center) to include a new meeting location, to involve members of the community outside of McKendree in leadership roles and most importantly move Mosaic outside of the “just-another-worship-service” box. If you are a big-time dreamer, outside of the box thinker and power-play pray-er consider being on the Mosaic relaunch team. Contact Stephen Handy at the church office today.

Deaths Our love and sympathy go out to the friends & family of Charles Adwell, who passed away June 21, 2009. Charles was the father of Beth Allen & the uncle of Tom Halliburton. We apologize to Beth, as this was printed incorrectly in the last issue of The McKendree Vine.

Memorials McKendree has received gifts in memory of Tim Kinnane from Doris Turner, Barbara & Jack Norman, Georgie Ayers, Ruby Mai Farrar, Richard & Helen Costa, and Miller & Martin PLLC. * The church is looking for volunteers to participate in the 11:00a worship services: scripture reading, leading congregational prayer, etc.

McKendree Clean-up Day Before we enter the fall season for 2009 the McKendree staff is putting together plans for a church-wide “clean-up day.” Dates have not been officially set for this event, however early August has been considered as a targeted time frame. As we are entering “A New Era of Hope” in the life of our church, the clean-up day will serve as a preparation for our facilities to be utilized to their full potential. One specific need for this day will be large trucks for hauling away big items. Also, as we gear up for this big day, please be thinking of various local organizations that could benefit from receiving items from the church. An example of this would be a school in need of an upright piano, etc. An inventory list of these type of items will be compiled soon. July Birthdays:

Highlights from VBS 2009 “Son Rock Kids Camp”

July 26 Loft event needs CREW Last summer McKendree church partnered with the middle school group from The People’s Church in Franklin, TN for various service and missions projects in the downtown area for their annual “Ignite” program. Part of their Ignite experience also included cleaning and detailing the entire McKendree campus facilities. The kids also assisted in our first Community Gathering in Watkins Park - an event that we continued this year. One of the highlights ending their Ignite week last year was the Worship on the Rooftop experience. It was such a touching and spiritually moving event that The Loft Nashville will again host the worship service portion of The People’s Church’s Ignite Weekend on Sunday night July 26, 2009. We will need a few volunteers that night to open and close The Loft, set up and tear down chairs, and be present to make sure guests can easily locate the restrooms at the CLC, etc. The

People’s Church will be providing all other needed gear and equipment. If you can help, please contact Kevin Sparkman at the church office.

Cafe Tables - be on the lookout! The church is looking for cafe-style tables such as these (pictured) to be placed in various locations throughout the church building. These items will help to promote engaging and spiritual conversations of Sunday morning coffee. We would prefer to acquire these second-hand or by donation.

Who’s Missing? ...YOU! Enjoy putting together challenging jigsaw puzzles? Please come and help our hard working secretaries in putting together our “(re)imagine” puzzle for display in the church.
