My top five Sites.google.com is the easiest way I know to put a website on the Internet. It’s like having a piece of real estate… just invest ten minutes and you will have it. If you don’t know how, call me and I’ll create a page for you. Email me the content and I’ll create a page for you. I have a youtube.com account that helps you understand the steps behind making a Sites.Google.com web page. Go to www.youtube.com/theebookman and look for the video. 2) www.Zamzar.com Now you can snag that favorite youtube.com video. If you want to show it to a friend when you are not on the Internet, if you want to mail a group of videos to your friends in Africa (who might have a difficult time getting on the Internet), if you want to put a youtube video on your iphone or an mp4 file on your iPod or mp4 player, this is the website to start with. 3) www.Snaggit.com

Grab any photo on a screen.

4) www.Scribd.com This is where you found this book. (well, this “half edition”). I’ve found excellent books in pdf and txt formats. Explore, you can build a library. 5) www.Gutenberg.org 6) www.WeFeelFine.org

Another great place A beautiful place to visit.

Well, I gave you six sites in my top five. We can call this next list the “Top Ten” and give you 50 more sites: www.snopes.com The ultimate in mythbusting. www.WeirdThings.com Andrew Mayne (see Magic) is a debunker extraordinaire and a clear thinker. Predictions www.longbets.org/predictions A Very Clever Concept! This gets into the Top Ten for originality. The following appears on the website: Minimum period of Predictions and Bets is 2 years. The subject of the Prediction or Bet must be societally or scientifically important. Predictors and Bettors must provide an argument explaining why the subject of their prediction is important and why they think they will be proved right. The fee to publish a Prediction is $50. Any Prediction can become a Bet. Bettors provide the name of a charity to receive the winnings if they win. INVITATION (From the Introduction of the book) =======================

We’re collecting a lot of cool web sites in a collection called VeryCoolSites.com. We say, "Parents -- here are some educational sites that your kids might want to look at..." and "Wow! That's funny” and “Wow! That’s amazing” and “Yuck! That’s disgusting." Photos that appear in this collection are intended to engage your attention. I believe in the “vook”: a visual book. We learn visually, so some of the photos will entice you to visit other pages (Hey, reader: check out zamzar under “Youtube software”). Tell us if you have suggestions for “directional topics” (headings that direct the reader to another topic, such as “Downloading Software -- see also Youtube software” and “Music -- see also youtube software” to direct people to zamzar.com). If you recommend a site, you will get a free copy of the “full version 1.0” of the electronic book. The book will also be available in print from iUniverse. My hope is that at least 3,000 copies will be purchased (does anyone know Oprah?) and that activity will attract the attention of a publisher. (“Hey, Partners Pub Group? Teacher Created Materials Inc.? Jamsa Press? Are you interested?” They published collections of 1001 sites in 1995 and 2004).

======================= END NOTE The reasons for this book are many a) There hasn’t been a book in print that lists 1001 web sites since 2004. b) I love zamzar.com and snaggit.com, so I thought the best way to tell others about these programs is to share them with you in this way. c) Knowledge is power. You can decide how to use these sites. I thin the world will be a more flexible and interesting place if we can use materials on the Internet more often. d) I want to share my wife’s photos with more people. The photos in this book were taken by her or with her coaching. e) Quotations guide us in our lives. The book will include some great quotes for the next generation. f) I’m concerned that the current batch of young people don’t have enough positive inputs. This book, especially the free version that will eventually go on pdfcoke.com, is one way to provide positive avenues for all that youthful energy. If you see other reasons to put together a list of recommended sites from A to Z, tell me.

Thank you for your input. This “half-edition” is really less than 5 percent of the finished book. It’s up to you and your friends to recommend more sites.

Donation: $4 Where will your donation go? -------------------------------------------------------------$2 to the Gordon Dyke Education Fund (to support school fees for students in Africa – the current focus is in Kenya in a program organized by NewDawn-Association.org). The fund will be an endowment with income from the principal being used for school fees and to assist students with the cost of going to school. This income will remove obstacles to education. $1 to the Cofradiaschool.com in Honduras. Ben Udy is the principal and he can tell you what he plans to do with the money. The goal is to meet current expenses for the coming two years (until 2011) and then establish an endowment fund to provide income to the school in the future. 50 cents to the building fund at Aiglon.ch (I have a plan for putting a lot of quotations around the classrooms and the money spent there will help support the building fund – each quote will cost $900, enough to pay for 1 square meter of the building). 50 cents to the Gordon Dyke Art Prize (the name of the prize is still being worked out). The goal is to raise about $10,000 to create a perpetual fund for generating $40 in prize money each year. If you can afford only $1, okay, send it to Steve McCrea, c/o Embassy School, 301 East Las Olas Blvd., Sixth Floor, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 Or you can find one of my students at www.TeacherstoTeachers.com and give the $4 to that person. They’ll pass it on to me. If you can’t afford $4, then send $1 and the split will be 50 cents, 25 cents and 12.5 cents to the two smaller funds. THE HOPE: If 20,000 people participate, we will accumulate $80,000, divided as follows: New Dawn's GD Education Fund $40,000 Cofradia School $20,000 Quotations $10,000 (which might purchase about 10 square feet of a sports center) Art Prize $10,000
