Hors d’oeuvres receptions are very popular these days. To keep your guests satisfied without serving a full dinner, order 2 to 3 pieces of each hors d’oeuvres for every guest. It’s nice to provide a variety of choices to include shellfish, vegetables, poultry and sweets. Action & Carving stations can act as a more substantial hors d’oeuvres. Try Roast Prime Rib of Beef with miniature rolls or a Pasta Station. Your guests will be happy that they get to sample the whole menu provided. - KELLY KILLEEN, Catering Manager, Folly Beach Holiday Inn Oceanfront

The Big ‘Hair’ Day Saying, “I do,” to your wedding hair-do can be a stressful process, especially because there are so many styles to choose from! Make sure that your hairstyle on your wedding day not only goes with your dress and helps to accentuate any accessories you are wearing, but is also functional. Consider wind, heat, and your veil, as well as how long your wedding and reception will be, before committing to a style.

Picture Perfect Take pictures of your hair and makeup during your hair and makeup run through day, and make sure to have the pictures developed before you go back in for the real thing. Not only will you be able to remind your stylist of the exact style you chose, but you will also be able to make sure your hair and makeup look great in print for all those wedding day photos.

Every bride wants to look and feel the best on her big day. Being soft, hair free and ready for the honeymoon is at the top of every woman’s list. Sugaring is a natural form of hair removal (consisting of only sugar, water and lemon juice) leaving you smooth and hair free for weeks. Most brides come for their first Sugaring service in preparation for their nuptials about 4 - 5 weeks before their wedding and follow up with a second visit just before the big day. Sugaring helps to deplete hair growth making it the most practical & gentle hair removal alternative. - CHRISTINA ROBERTSON, Owner, Sweet 185 Sugaring Studio & Organic Boutique 7

BRIDAL buzz: Wedding To Do’s To Delegate There’s so much to be done, but you don’t have to do it all! Delegate some of these responsibilities: ❑ Table and chair set up for the reception. Make a diagram of what you want it to look like, or meet with who will help you at the site before the big day. ❑ Mark the rows or seats that are reserved for family at the ceremony site. Give them a diagram of the arrangement and materials. ❑ Make sure the flowers are delivered from the vendor and set up/distributed appropriately. ❑ Check with the band or DJ. ❑ Hand out programs. Be sure that they know where the programs will be. ❑ Greet guests as they arrive and make sure they know where to sit or stand. (Particularly important at outdoor weddings.) ❑ Lace bridesmaids’ bouquets at head table for reception.

#

❑ Keep the bride’s lipstick, powder, etc. handy for touch ups at the reception. ❑ Give bride her shoes to change into at reception. ❑ Check to make sure the getaway car is stocked with everything the new couple will need for the honeymoon, hotel, etc.

Children make a delightful addition to any wedding! Make sure to share details and the excitement of the day, and clearly establish what is expected. For children in the wedding ceremony, a spot of tape on the floor with their initials on it will help them remember where to stand. During the rehearsal, suggest the children practice more than twice. Young children are not expected to go to the rehearsal dinner, but may do so if the bride requests it. Children in the wedding party’s enthusiasm and excitement often equals, if not exceeds, that of the other attendants, so have fun! - SUSIE MOLONY, Southern Belles, A Children’s Clothier

Your big day is all about you, your fiancé and your friends and family; a celebration of beginning your life together! There are easy ways to share the fortune and splendor of your happy time with others who are not as blessed: • If you choose to have a buffet at your reception, contact local food shelters and see if they will accept donations of leftover food, including bread rolls and unopened or untouched hors d’oeuvres and entrées. • Visit idofoundation.org to create a wedding gift registry with an I Do Foundation partner store, and up to 10% of your gift purchases will be donated to your favorite charity. You can also give your guests the option to donate to a charity in lieu of a gift by registering at JustGive.org’s Wedding Center. • Make your wedding favors really count by making a donation in your guests names to a charity of your choice. Visit changingthepresent.org to personalize printed favor cards with a photo and description of the gift given in their name.

BRIDAL buzz: WEDDING INVITATION 101 ❑ Order extras for keepsakes or last-minute additions to the guest list. ❑ Order extra envelopes for mistakes and get them early so that you can begin addressing them. ❑ Use black ink for addressing, and do not abbreviate anything (street, boulevard, etc.). ❑ If you enclose a response card, stamp and pre-address it. Make sure you create a system for knowing who it is from in case the respondent doesn’t include their name. ❑ Mail your invitations four to six weeks prior to the wedding! ❑ Are your invites an irregular size? Wedding Day Reminders • Remove your engagement ring before your wedding ceremony. The correct placement for your wedding ring is immediately below your engagement ring so that it is closer to your heart. For this reason, place your engagement ring on your right hand. Once the ceremony is over, put the ring on your left hand above your wedding band. • Put all purses, flowers and gloves away before you step into the reception line. You will be greeting, hugging, and kissing your guests, and you do not want things to be in your way! • Make sure you and the groom both have your Wedding Day Emergency Kits the day of the wedding (see page 6 and download your list at EveryBusyWoman.com). • Be sure to delegate responsibilities to trusted friends and family. Check page 10 for our Wedding To Do’s To Delegate buzz and download your list at EveryBusyWoman.com.

‘Tis the season for beautiful, wedding colors. Some guidelines: Summer: Balmy mid-purples, rich peaches, ice whites, baby yellows and pale blues

WEDDING TRANSPORTATION

When planning an outside wedding check the time of the sunset. The best light for pictures is an hour and a half before sunset. Start your ceremony at this time to get the best light. Then you will still have enough time after the ceremony to get some more great shots with friends and family. - SARA E. CAVALON, Owner/Wedding Planner, Something to Celebrate

Seasonal Color

Spring: Baby pink, rich cream, soft lilac, pale sky blue, mint green, and soft silver tones
