Origin of the bicycle • In anceient egypt rudimetrary artifacts were made up of two wheels joined by a bar. It was also known in China a very similar device, but with wheels made of bamboo. There is a belief that the first news about a bicycle dates back to the year 1490, approximately, in the work Codex Atlanticus, by Leonardo da Vinci. In them can be seen a sketch of a bicycle with chain transmission driven by pedals (the same method used by the current ones), but it was nothing more than a joke perpetrated in the 1960.

Types of bicycles The draisiana: This "walking machine" consisted of a kind of twowheeled cart, placed one behind the other, and a handlebar. The person was sitting on a small mount, placed in the center of a small wooden frame. To move, he alternately pushed with his left foot and his right foot forward, similar to the movement of a skater. With this impulse, the vehicle acquired a speed almost identical to that of a carriage.

The pedal bike :

The construction of the first bicycle with pedals is attributed to the Scottish Kirkpatrick Macmillan, in the year 1839. A copy of Macmillan's bicycle is exhibited at the Science Museum in London, England. Macmillan never patented the invention, which was later copied in 1846 by Gavin Dalzell of Lesmahagow, who disseminated it so widely that he was considered for fifty years the inventor of the bicycle.
