Subject: Visa and passport info Dieter et al I have enclosed a document that digests many of the primary documents we have collected on the hijackers' and conspirators' passports and visas, including interviews of the government officials involved in the decisions. Obviously, little of it will make it into your "definitive history" of the 9/11 plot. Nevertheless, it may be useful to you as you draft. Significantly, I have found and noted some instances where our data is different and I think more accurate than that from the FBI. In general, it would be helpful to Team 5 if you would include in your text those instances where the hijackers and conspirators employed terrorist travel tactics, especially ones that opened them up to possible detection. For example, where they: (1) applied with recently issued passports—Atta, Waleed. al Shehri, Wail al Shehri, Hanjour, Mihdhar, Moqed, N. al Hazmi, S. al Hazmi, Jarrah, S. al Ghamdi, al Nami, al Shehhi, Banihammad, and A. al Ghamdi; (2) used fraudulent or manipulated documents - al Omari, Suqami and possibly S. al Ghamdi, Haznawi, and H. al Ghamdi; (3) presented passports with indicators of extremism - S. Hazmi, Mihdhar, and possibly N. Hazmi, Haznawi and Nami; and (4) made false statements on their visa applications—S. al Ghamdi, Mihdhar, Hanjour; It also would be helpful if you would state (5) who was interviewed-Hanjour (twice), and Suqami-and, (6) where people who you consider important to the conspiracy were denied a visa—Hanjour, Jihad al Gamdi, Binalshibh, Essabar-state clearly the process and basis for that denial. Please feel very free to call with questions on any of this, and thanks for your help. -Tom
