It is very important to use “polite” words such as GOOD MORNING/AFTERNOON/EVENING, THANK YOU, PLEASE, EXCUSE ME or SORRY, e.g.: Good morning, can you please give me a glass of water? (Buenos días, ¿me puede dar un vaso de agua?) Excuse me, can I use the toilet? (Perdone, ¿puedo usar el baño?) Sorry if I am late, I took the wrong bus. (Perdone que llegue tarde, cogí el autobús equivocado) Can you please tell me where I can buy some stamps to send a postcard to Spain? (¿Me puede decir dónde puedo comprar sellos para enviar una postal a …?



When you are LOST and you need to know where you are or how to get to a place: Excuse me, do you know where this place is? (Perdone, ¿sabe dónde está este lugar?) Excuse me, I’m a student visiting London and I need to know where this place is. (Perdone, soy un estudiante visitando L. y necesito saber dónde está este lugar). How far is it to __________? (¿Qué distancia hay a….?) How can I go to __________ , please?/ Which way to _________? (¿Cómo puedo llegar a…?) Where is the nearest telephone booth? (¿Dónde está la cabina de teléfono más cercana?)
