Student Response and Assessment Tools Lesson Idea Name: Multiplying multi digit numbers Content Area: Mathematics Grade Level(s): 5th Grade

Content Standard Addressed:

MGSE5.NBT.5 Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm (or other strategies demonstrating understanding of multiplication) up to a 3digit by 2-digit factor. Technology Standard Addressed:

Selected Technology Tool: ☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond

3 Knowledge Constructor

☐ Quizlet

☐ Plickers

x Kahoot!

☐ Office 365 Forms ☐ Other: URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable): https://create.kahoot.it/share/multiplying-multi-digit-numbers/16a98472-49c4-47e3-81ae-80b2b981f268

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts: xComputer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☐ Phone xTablet (such as iPad) x Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)

Type of session: x Teacher-Paced

☐ Student-Paced

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s): ☐ Remembering ☐ Creating

☐ Understanding

x Applying

☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Engagement: Optimize learning and encourage students to self assess learning. Students

can solve problems using any strategy. Representation: Technology use represented as multiple choice. Action and Expression: Teacher can assess understanding of lesson prior to summative assessment. Students use strategies that the are comfortable with for solving problems. Multiple choice answers can lead students to correct answer. Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce the SRT activity.

TW use kahoot after students have had a partial lesson on multiplication of multi-digit numbers. TW introduce lesson and multiple strategies for solving multi-digit multiplication equations. Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply): ☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common misconceptions x Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge x Test preparation ☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain): Students can self assess knowledge. Students can practice before test. Teacher can check progression of students individual understanding of lesson. Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Students will access Kahoot through an iPad or laptop. Students will have access to scratch paper to help solve equations of Kahoot. The activity will last approximately 3 minutes. The teacher will monitor students progress. Teacher will assess students answers to check comprehension afterward.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply): x Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No ☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

1)32x12 8)104x13

2)182x55 3)120x56

4)111x22

5)155x10 6)223x46

7)175x12

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions? x Yes ☐ No ☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)

Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and display correct response to the class after the SRT activity? x Yes ☐ No Why or why not?

Correct responses will be provided so that students will be able to self assess comprehension of math strategies.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

Students will move into closure of lesson for the day and transition into other content area. How will the data be used?

Teacher will use data to check comprehension of content. If students are struggling with content based on scores of Kahoot, teacher will reteach concepts for multiplication with multi-digit numbers. Discussion of strategies should be readdressed also. This can be done as a whole class or in small group.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

The goal of this activity is to have students self assess learning using a different tool. Teacher can also assess students comprehension of strategies and content.

Reflective Practice:

This activity will help students self assess learning progress. This also a fun and competitive activity for students to participate in. Students can also use this with cell phones.
