BLESSING OF HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES LEADER: Brothers and sisters, today we offer thanksgiving and blessings for our high school graduates. CONGREGATION: We love you, we support you, and we pray for you. Fear God and keep his commandments. Love God and love your neighbor. Love mercy, do justice, and walk humbly with God. God has a plan for you—a plan to prosper and not harm you. In God, you will find hope and a future. We pray blessings on your future careers, continued education, relationships, and families. Be strong and courageous. Do not be discouraged. God is with you wherever you go. You may grow weary. You may stumble and fall. But the Lord is the everlasting God. He will not grow tired or weary. To whom much is given, much is required. We expect your gifts and talents to be used wisely, seeking after the heart of God in all you do. May you always remember that you are a child of God. May you love and pray for the church, and find it to be a place of renewal and refuge when the road is long and lonely. Go forward into the future, shining bright with the light of Christ. The Lord bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace. Amen.
Feel free to pray at the altar or your seat.

TO OUR COMMUNITY. . . 2 Corinthians 4:7: But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. I was in the lobby waiting area of a business in Waco this past week, and I needed to use their restroom. I was shocked when I found a security lock, and I had to have my name on a sign-in sheet to use this particular facility. After that I got to thinking about all the ways that we secure our things. We are a very security conscious culture. I have multiple usernames, passwords, and pin numbers. I can’t even remember them all. I am one of those people that have to answer the reminder question or just set everything up new each time. I thought it would be nice to just use one set of security codes, but they all require different formulas and usages of letters, numbers, and capitalization. Besides, all the security folks say you should use multiple passwords for protection in case someone gets your password they will not have access to all your stuff. Frankly, I don’t have enough stuff to worry about. What makes this doubly interesting to me as a Christian, the most important “treasure” I have is the “good news”. This most valuable “treasure” is to be shared and the Apostle Paul even tells the Corinthians that it is not kept in a secure place. It is kept in clay pots; the cheapest and most expendable of vessels. He then lets them know that we are the clay pots. He doesn’t say this to call us cheap and expendable but to show that the power of the “good news” is a result of God and not ours. There is a “security key” to all this though. That key is the Holy Spirit. May 31, 2009, is a significant day in the life of First Baptist Church Valley Mills. On this day we will celebrate Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit, and the birth of the Church. Beginning June 21, 2009, we will be worshiping for 8 weeks with a sermon series about the “good news” and how we share it with others. For now, just know to come and worship every Sunday and you will not need a username, password, or a pin number. Praying for you, John
