Please visit our wonderful team of caring teachers at our registration table in front of the parish hall on Sunday, August 23rd after the 9am and the 10:30am Mass! This year we are planning a special excursion to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) to view their religious art collection. The tour will be led by our art history professor and docent Victoria Loschuk. This year we will also have an outreach program at the Nazareth House where the children will perform for the retired residents. Continuation….

The Gospel reading continues with the sixth chapter of John and the “Bread of Life” discourse of Jesus that we hear for several weeks in a row every three years. As has been announced, Fr. Gabriel is speaking at all the Masses today on this Sunday when our parish commemorates its missionary nature. Recently, I had the opportunity to meet with the Women’s Club and several interesting developments came out of the meeting. First, they presented me with a booklet that they had produced that describes the church and pieces of art and worship within it. Second, they offered, with their own resources, to fix some parish items that need fixing. Thirdly, upon hearing from me that the parish owes several thousand dollars in past bills, offered to help, again from their own resources. Several of our long-time parishioners, and some newer ones too, belong to the St. Timothy’s Women’s Club. I would like to thank them for their thoughtfulness, generosity, and kindness to me and to the parish. Moving across the aisle to the “men’s group,” or better known as the Knights of Columbus, I would like to thank some of the members for helping here in the parish in many important ways, such as, driving Fr. Gutting to and from Mass (he doesn’t drive), meeting with survivors of a deceased parishioner, and hosting “hospitality,” among other things. As the parishioners know they are hosting a golf tournament next week but the last I heard the signups were a little on the low side so if it is possible maybe some of us can, if not play golf, maybe go to the nineteenth hole!-or rather, the dinner after! Please give Anil or Gorge a call or call the rectory office if you are interested. As many of you know, there has been a business manager in the rectory office while Fr. Brelsford was here, since she left when he did, and I have reviewed the situation, I do not think it is necessary to replace her and hire another business manager. Also, the parish is not that big in terms of numbers and it does not have the resources. In the meantime, I have hired an interim accountant to help with that part of the office. At the same time, this situation changes the dynamic of the front office somewhat. In the end, our purpose is to try to best serve the needs of the parishioners and to conduct necessary business and administration in a professional way. Please be patient with us as we muddle along without the presence of two key people that were in charge here for thirteen years but are no longer here. If you have any comments or suggestions please call me at the office until I get a real suggestion box! In the fall I will be convening both the Parish Council and the Finance Council to review, present, and go forward with a five year vision for the parish, for where there is no vision they perish. Also, in a few months, when it is time for the parish financial report and offertory program I will put forth in more detail the financial report of the parish.

*correction from last weeks bulletin letter that should have read: "How appropriate to have a festive religious celebration in the middle of the month: it is a statement that the Word of God, the Creator, is subject to NO one and this celebration can help pull us out of possible doldrums to recognize the utter difference between Divinity, God, and human beings (not to diminish the fact that we are also made in the image of God)."
