Is God calling you to spread His word? Be a teacher for our Religious Education programs! We need volunteer teachers and assistants for our Sunday School and Confirmation Program. St. Timothy's Religious Education programs need your support! The need for loving parishioners to help teach classes is overwhelming! Do you enjoy working with children or teenagers? Please contact Deborah at 310-474-1216 or [email protected] for more information.

Non-perishable food drive at our 9am Family Mass please drop off your food donations before our 9am Mass in the Chapter Room. Our children will bring the food to the altar during our gift procession. The children love to be little disciples in helping the poor and the needy.

The Rite of Baptism is a sacrament of initiation. Understanding a sacrament does not begin with the ritual, it begins with preparation and catechesis. Baptism Preparation classes are offered every month. Our next Baptism preparation class will be offered on Thursday, August 6 in the Chapter room. Baptism is a gateway to all the other sacraments. Christ calls and welcomes our new family members into our Church. It is a public declaration of love and commitment of the parents and godparents. The children are initiated into the community, in the midst of the community, by the community. Please call Deborah at the rectory or e-mail her at [email protected] for an application and more detailed information. As one of the sacraments of initiation, Confirmation is an oil rite. The candidates are anointed by the Holy Spirit to be kings and prophets who live in the kingdom of God and proclaim the Word of God. Through this sacrament they are commissioned to spread the gospel and build up the Church, the Body of Christ. Preparation for the sacrament is directed towards apostolic witness and missionary spirit which can transform the world. Confirmation classes for adults and teenagers will be offered in October. Please call Deborah or e-mail at [email protected] for more information.

Continuation…….. For the first time writing in this bulletin, I would like to say a few words about the “new look” of our bulletin. Actually, if anyone has ever visited another Catholic Church for whatever reason, like vacation, you would have noticed different styles, shapes, and lengths of a given church bulletin. We are simply using some of the options available to us to ultimately print the bulletin. For example, several parishes and their bulletins, are utilizing the scripture reading for that Sunday as a basis for the image and scripture quotation on the front cover of the bulletin. That is what we are doing this weekend here at St. Timothy’s for the first time. I am going on faith that the bulletin will indeed be printed as I am planning and as the bulletin editor (Stephanie) is cutting and pasting and sending via email to the bulletin company. For your information, the bulletin is sent in (by email) the latest Wednesday, but if we expand our bulletin it will have to be sent in by Tuesday, only to be delivered to our doorstep on Saturday. The number of pages and the number of colors depends on the contract a given church has with the bulletin company. We are looking into expanding our bulletin on both counts: size and colors. Presently, if you have not noticed, the bulletin has four pages, one page being advertising. Regarding colors, our present bulletin has black (obviously), and a “color of the week,” as the bulletin company puts it. So, again, if you haven’t noticed, each week the bulletin has one additional color besides black, depending on what color the bulletin company decides. The only way our parish can increase the number of pages or number of colors is to increase our advertisers. Thus, please keep in mind our advertisers, consider patronizing them if you are in the market, and perhaps if it pertains to you consider advertising in the bulletin because the advertisers help to pay for the bulletin. Although “times are tough” as they say, we still may be able to continue purchasing goods and services and advertising for them. For information on how to advertise in our bulletin please call 1-800-231-0805. Please remember even national news services sometimes make typos or factual errors so if that happens on our bulletin we will make the necessary corrections but our goal is to have a perfect bulletin and Jesus is our model for perfection! The layout of the bulletin too, we’re moving around to try to make it as user friendly and helpful as possible to you the parishioners; so today’s bulletin is not the final edition!

Thank you to all of you for your kindness to me as I begin my first month here as your Pastor. In a special way I would like to thank St. Timothy’s School, the Women’s Club, and the Knights of Columbus for sponsoring my welcome to St. Timothy’s this weekend with a reception after all the Sunday Masses. I am truly grateful again for your kindness. What comes to mind is that “saying” that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. That, my friends is the case in this instance. Finally, last week someone told me in the rectory office that “no one reads the bulletin” here (at St. Timothy’s)! If that is true, I would ask myself why take the time to write a few simple lines for the parishioners. Is it worth it? I’d enjoy hearing from you if it is worth my time and effort. Have a great week. Fr. Paul Vigil LITURGICAL MINISTER SCHEDULE
