TODAY IS SEA SUNDAY

APOSTLESHIP OF THE SEA (AoS) is the official maritime welfare agency of the Catholic Church in Great Britain. The Apostleship of the Sea reaches out to seafarers that visit our ports each year, offering pastoral and practical support and care. AoS is wholly dependent on voluntary donations to continue its work; it takes the love of Christ to seafarers in the name of the Church, recognising them as our brothers and sisters in need. Sea Sunday is the principal fundraising and awareness-raising event of the year for AoS. Today’s second collection will be taken at Masses throughout the country. This annual event is absolutely vital for AoS to continue their work. Please give generously, and remember seafarers in your prayers. Thank you.

PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS ALL WHO ARE SICK AND THOSE WHO HAVE DIED RECENTLY OR HAVE ANNIVERSARIES:

Mary Vesey, Francis Gleeson, Joan Styles, Peter Greatbanks, Violet Freeman, Thomas Reid, Douglas Jones, Michael Donnelly, Rita Robertson. RIP

KEYS For insurance and security purposes, I need to know exactly who has keys to church property—either the church itself, ( St Felix or St Cecilia ) the hall or the presbytery. If you possess a key to any of the buildings, please make a note with your name and details and let me have it as soon as you can. MANY THANKS!

when the Church remembers all those who live and work at sea. Many people have never stopped to consider how important seafarers are to our standard of living. Without them we would not have most of the items we use in our everyday lives. Many of these seafarers do not have the quality of life on board that every human being has the right to.

July 2009 Dear Friends By way of keeping you up to date, below is a summary of the major developments and issues which have and will continue to be managed on your behalf by the Parish Advisory Council. The PAC has spent much time discussing and commissioning projects aimed at bringing our parish buildings up to a maintainable standard. The completed projects – which include two replacement hot water & central heating boilers (church and presbytery) and the replacement windows in the presbytery – have come at considerable cost to the Parish. Several years ago there was evidence of cracking in the presbytery’s brickwork near to the car park. The necessary remedial action was not taken back then and the damage has now extended through to the front porch. A full investigation into the extent of the subsidence, most probably due to collapsed drains, is being undertaken by competent contractors. The now urgent repair work will involve the underpinning of the presbytery, with the associated costs likely to run into the thousands of pounds. We will keep you informed of any developments. The PAC is looking at ways of reducing the huge amount of effort needed to keep the Memorial Garden in good order. If any parishioners would like to come forward and offer their services please speak to Fr. David. Those of you who have been in the parish for some years will be aware that many times in the past there was going to be a Parish Welcome Pack. Well – surprise, surprise – it’s really in the making this time! Not only will it contain details of the various organisations and groups that exist in our parish but will also include our Mission Statement and a dedicated Parish Prayer. We are looking forward to hearing Bishop Michael’s decision on our ‘twinning’ with a parish in Cambodia and also the revised Diocesan Pastoral Plan. Minutes of meetings are displayed in the church hallways and can be viewed on our parish website – saintfelix.org.uk/PAC Our next meeting is on Tuesday 21st July, in the hall, at 7.30p.m. Parishioners are very welcome to attend. Kind regards Nigel Gorham ( Chair )
