Welcome Weekend signals start of fall semester by Jared Hatfield, Editor As the summer semester comes to a close, many students find themselves studying for finals and packing up to go home. However, a new and longer fall semester is just around the corner. The start of a new school year means Welcome Weekend, a couple of exciting days jam-packed with interesting events along with new and old friends. This year’s Welcome Weekend

will begin on Thursday, August 16, as the incoming freshmen move in to the dorms. That night, the new comers will experience a night on the town, along with horses and haunts. Fun for the returning students will begin on Friday, August 17, as they move in between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm. Later that day, students are welcome to take part in a variety of events ranging from a Playfair to a BBQ and Planetarium

show. For those that are unable to move in on Friday, there is another chance to get situated in the dorms on Saturday, August 18 between the hours of 1 pm and 5 pm. The fun filled weekend continues with opportunities to take part in athletics and even a Roof Top Party. There will be plenty of free food and fun awaiting students upon their return.

Student Tablet Users Group A new student organization is starting to take shape at Speed School. This organization will be student driven and will focus on the new Tablet PC program. While still in the early stages of development, this program has its home base in the former Kersey Library building on the first floor. On a very basic level, this program will serve as a form of technical support for incoming freshmen looking for assistance with their new Tablet PC’s. However, eventually it may become much more than that. Initially there will be some obstacles, such as installing software to overcome. More complex issues such as the best way to organize notes could be discussed. The tablet users group also could serve as a catalyst for organizing student feedback with regard to the Tablet program. Currently, there are plans to have the organization tightly linked with the Speed School Student Council. However, it is still too soon to tell how this program will develop. Students interested in this program can contact Speed News for additional information.
