Welcome Weekend activities for Speed School by Jared Hatfield, Editor As the new school year takes off, there are a plethora of events new and returning students can take part in. Welcome Weekend offers free food, useful information, and plenty of occasions to socialize. One great occasion is Open House, which will be taking place Friday at 2:30 PM and free Graeter's ice cream will be provided. Also, students will not want to miss the Alumni BBQ being held

Friday at 5:00 PM. These events are just the beginning of a jampacked weekend that is sure to get the students ready for the semester at hand. More details concerning the remaining events can be found at http://admissions.louisville.edu/ welcome/schedule.htm. For Speed School students interested in learning more about tablet usage or are curious about the Student Tablet Users' Group (STUG), there will be a question and answer session during Wel-

come Weekend. These information sessions will be held Friday from 1:00 to 2:15 and Saturday from 1:00 to 2:30 in the Kersey Library.

A guide to becoming involved at Speed School by Jared Hatfield, Editor For those incoming freshmen to Speed School, becoming involved should be high on the priority list, only preceded by calculus, physics, and chemistry. This list goes on. One of the biggest organizations at Speed School to become involved in is the Speed School Student Council. The SSSC hosts a variety of events including E-Expo, E-Ball just to mention a few of the biggest. For those incoming freshmen, there is even a special segment of council dedicated to them. Aptly

named Freshmen Council, this organization is a sub-committee of the big council. It serves the freshmen student body and provides an avenue for incoming freshmen to become involved in the general council. Freshmen council is responsible for hosting one event each semester. Successful events from the previous year include a Wii Sports Tournament and a Fourth of July Cookout. Involvement does not stop with council. There are many different societies and professional organizations that are focused more on each individual major. Those freshmen

who attended the game night already know a little about the societies that apply to them. The first step of becoming involved is to show up. Student Council will meet on Thursdays at 12:20 PM. The meetings will typically last till 1 PM. Curious students should feel free to ask upperclassmen more about becoming involved. There is also more information about various societies on the Speed News Blog, which can be found on the site located below the header.

Student Tablet Users Group The newest of the student organizations at Speed School will set their focus on the new Tablet PC requirement for all Speed School students. This group, the Student Tablet Uses Group, STUG for short, will consist of generous upperclassmen tablet users and any interested freshmen. This group hopes to serve the tablet user base by creating an atmosphere of mutual learning rather than just a tech support group. To start things off, there will be a question and answer session held Friday from 1:00 to 2:15 and Saturday from 1:00 to 2:30 in the Kersey Library. Additionally, a Google Group has been set up as the temporary digital home of STUG. The web address is: http://groups.google.com/ group/SPEEDSTUG This group will allow for rapid communication among all group members. Currently there is a limited amount of information available, but as problems arise and solutions are found, they will be posted and distributed through the STUG Google Group as well as other methods such as the GES 101 class.
