DMX TECHNOLOGIES GROUP LTD
Media Release (Infrastructure Enabling Group)
Singapore-listed DMX Group secures breakthrough security solution and services contract in South Korea Singapore, 8 December 2009 – SGX Mainboard-listed leading digital media services and application solutions provider, DMX Technologies Group Limited (“DMX” or the “Group”; SGX: 5CH.SI), today announced that one of its wholly owned subsidiary, DMX Technologies Korea Co Ltd (“DMX Korea”), has secured a breakthrough contract to supply information technology (“IT”) security solution and services to one of South Korea’s main government agencies overseeing IT security-related matters. The initial security solution and consulting services contract to DMX Korea is to put in place effective security surveillance against malicious cyber-attacks, namely Distributed Denialof-Services (“DDoS”) for the agency. This will allow the agency to render all-year, roundthe-clock traffic monitoring and threat management services for government departments. A DDoS attack involves bombarding a targeted organisation’s IT system with large amounts of data over an extended period such that the overloaded system can no longer provide the intended functions to legitimate users, e.g., failure of e-communication media and significant slowdown of the whole system. Typically, an attack would entail the marshalling of multiple “zombie” personal computers across the external network that had been infected by a hacker, to simultaneously drive heavy traffic volume to the target. Commenting on the initial contract, DMX Group’s CEO, Ms. Jismyl Teo, said, “DMX is delighted to have secured the agency’s trust in our domain expertise of security solution and consulting services within our infrastructure enabling group. The focus we have placed in building our security expertise in Korea is also yielding its results. The agency’s endorsement elevates DMX Korea’s competitive position and we are confident of continuing to build on the relationship with them.” The DDoS attacks in July 2009, which affected major service providers in Korea including email service providers and government agencies, as well as global social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook, served as nasty wake-up calls to companies in Korea – that unseen tech-savvy mischief-makers constantly prowl cyberspace seeking to maliciously exploit loop-holes in IT systems and shut down companies’ daily operations. Mr Baek Boo Seon, President of DMX Korea added, “Many government agencies are strengthening the IT security infrastructure as a result of the recent DDos attacks. This has hastened the business opportunities in security solutions and services for DMX Korea. In addition, this has provided us a platform to consider launching a security operation centre in Korea.”
