Bible Reading:

2 Thessalonians 3:6-13 6

Now we command you, beloved, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from believers who are living in idleness and not according to the tradition that they received from us. 7For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us; we were not idle when we were with you, 8and we did not eat anyone’s bread without paying for it; but with toil and labor we worked night and day, so that we might not burden any of you. 9This was not because we do not have that right, but in order to give you an example to imitate. 10For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: Anyone unwilling to work should not eat. 11For we hear that some of you are living in idleness, mere busybodies, not doing any work. 12Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living. 13 Brothers and sisters, do not be weary in doing what is right. From your pastor I will be gone from the pulpit for the next two Sundays (September 13 & 20). Our guest preacher will be the Rev. Alan Beaver, a recently retired UMC pastor in the Florida Conference. Some of you may remember Rev. Beaver when he was the Senior Pastor at the First UMC in Plant City from 2000-2005. I will be spending five days in Nova Scotia, Canada accompanying my mother as she travels one more time to visit her hometown in Bridgewater. Her older brother, a retired United Church of Canada (includes Methodism in Canada) will be celebrating his 90th birthday. I will be using some of my father’s frequent flyer miles since we have the same name. Later in September, Gaye and I will be taking some out of town time to relax and brainstorm together our preaching and worship ideas for Advent, while lounging around a pool in the Orlando area. I will be present for our Church Council meeting where we will discuss and discern God’s direction for our worship here at SHUMC. Please be in prayer for this meeting.

The Office Buzz Upper Room Devotionals for September/October are available in the narthex rack or in the blue basket on the table near the office. Donations are appreciated, and there’s a box attached to the narthex rack and an envelope in the blue basket. CALLING ALL “YOUTH” FROM THE DECADE OF THE 50’S. We’re having a celebration to honor Mrs. Ellie Ruth Rice, who was our volunteer youth/recreation director during the 50’s. Mrs. Rice recently celebrated her 95th birthday, and we would like to honor her years of service to our generation. When: Sunday, Sept. 27, 3:00 - 5:00 pm Where: Allen Hall RSVP: Christine Tindale Freeze, [email protected] Please help us by notifying anyone you know who was a part of the 50’s group so they can RSVP and be a part of this gathering. If you have any photos or memorabilia to lend us for the display table please notify Jill Kinney, [email protected]. Come and help us make this a memorable reunion. If you cannot attend but would like to send greetings, you may send them to the church office, in care of Jill or Christine. Church Council will meet on Wednesday, September 16 at 7:00 to decide what to do regarding our church services. Since this will be the first week back for our Wednesday dinners, why not make it an evening and come for dinner at 6:00 and then stay for the meeting. If you plan to come for dinner that evening, please indicate this when the clip board comes to you by writing “dinner” next to your name, either today or next Sunday. Please be in prayer about this important meeting, and let God direct your decision

Message Notes

A nursery for young children is available behind the sanctuary (on this floor). Please speak to one of our ushers for directions. Following the children’s time in worship, children’s church is available for children in K-3rd grade. From 10:00-10:30, following Sunday School classes and prior to the worship service, all are invited downstairs to Allen Hall for a time of coffee and fellowship. Want a place online to share ideas, raise questions, and generally discuss the community life of Seminole Heights United Methodist Church? Our new “Seminole Heights UMC” group on Facebook may be the place for you. This new group is moderated by Pastor Glenn, with assistance from Sara DeBerry, our “once again”—youth ministry team leader. To participate, you’ll need a Facebook account. Go to www.facebook.com to setup your account and get started. It’s free. Then click on the Groups icon (two people in silhouette, one blue the other black) on the bottom of every Facebook page, search for Seminole Heights UMC, and click “Join this Group.” One of our Facebook administrators will invite you to join and then you can be a part of our new Facebook community. You can also ask to be one of our church’s Facebook “friends” at www.facebook.com/shumc. Here you will see others in our church (and some of “their” friends) and what they are currently doing in their lives.
