Gerrish-Higgins School District 814 Lake Street Roscommon, MI 48653 Science Objectives for Safety Students at Roscommon Middle School are expected to follow all safety rules, whether they are in the classroom, an outside field trip, or in the biology or chemistry lab. Please read the rules carefully with your student. The bottom tear-off sheet must be signed by the student and parent and returned to the homeroom teacher. 1. Do not handle materials until instructed to do so by the teacher. 2. Before beginning the experiment, wash hands and clear work area. 3. Stay at or in your work area unless otherwise instructed. 4. Move slowly and carefully – ESPECIALLY in the labs. There is absolutely no running or unruly behavior tolerated! You are surrounded by glass! 5. Keep hands and materials away from your face, especially your eyes and mouth. 6. Follow all experimental procedures. 7. Report ALL accidents to the teacher. Please don’t try to clean up broken glass by yourself. 8. After completing the lab, clean up your materials and your work area as instructed. 9. When finished, wash your hands and take care of materials. Consequences for inappropriate behavior will be determined by the teacher. Please note, consequences frequently involve a zero for the assignment and the student will be asked to leave the lab.
