Begin by referring back to the Prezi which has been previously presented in class. Explain to the students that today we will be exploring some instruments from China right in our own classroom! We will start with a quick, 3-question Kahoot to find out what we already know about Chinese musical instruments.
STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS Students will need to log in to Kahoot on their 1:1 iPads and enter the game code from the screen. Once all students have joined the Kahoot, we will take our brief survey about what we already know or think about Chinese instruments.
2 DIRECT INSTRUCTION
Activity:
Conversing Before viewing the Chinese instruments in augmented reality, have students review the • different types of classifications for world instruments.
STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS Describe how each classification of instrument makes sound.
3 GUIDED PRACTICE

Expeditions Free, Paid
OFF-SITE RESOURCE https://www.aquilaeducation.com/expeditions-search • • • •
Explain to students how to log into Google Expeditions and join tour using the code displayed on the board. Guide students through the five instruments presented. Have students read in pairs about each instrument. Work through classifying the first instrument together. Have students decide what makes the sound on the instrument. How is the instrument played?
STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS Students should log in to Google Expeditions and join the tour code presented on the board. After joining the tour, students will be guided through each instrument while reading with a partner about the basic ways in which each instrument is played.
4 INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
GoodNotes 4 $7.99 • •
Allow students to work through each instrument. Provide students with time to create a two-column note taking page in GoodNotes. Students should have the name of each instrument in one column and the classification and reasoning in the other.
STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS Create a two-column note taking page in GoodNotes. One column should have the name of each instrument and the other should include a classification for that instrument and reasoning in the other. Continue to read with your partner and discuss the classifications for each instrument.
5 WRAPPING UP
Activity:
Conversing • Ask students what they learned about each instrument. • Did most of the instruments fall into one category or multiple classifications? • Do you think the world instruments you will study will be similarly classified?
