DRC Vice Chair Wilson Lei and some of joined the the officers of the RDC assembly of the newly chartered RAC University District Manila.

The District Rotaract Committee (DRC), led by DCHR Gabe Trias, and the Rotaract District Committee (RDC), led by DRR Izel B. Guatno, met with different Rotaract clubs last August to help them seek and retain their members, and help form new Rotaract clubs. The visits were done in support of Rotary’s Membership and Extension Month.

Both committees also had their hands full as they helped the Rotary Clubs in the District form new Rotaract Clubs and reorganize inactive clubs. The efforts were not for naught, though, as three new Rotaract clubs were organized. These clubs are the Rotaract Club of Cavite Metro (sponsored by the Rotary Club of Cavite Metro), Rotaract Club of Cavite State University-Trece Martirez City Campus (sponsored by the Rotary Club of Cavite Export Processing Zone), and Rotaract Club of Bacoor Sunrise (sponsored by the Rotary Club

of Bacoor Sunrise). Their chartering documents have already been submitted to Rotary International. Meanwhile, the Rotaract Club of University District-Manila (sponsored by the Rotary Club of University District Manila) and the Rotaract Club of Sahod-Ulan (sponsored by the Rotary Club of Cavite Export Processing Zone) officially received their Charter Certificates from Rotary International. They were formally welcomed to the District. The DRC and RDC will continue to m eet with Rotaractors and Rotarians to meet its goal of creating a stronger district by forming and developing active Rotaract clubs.

RDC Joins District Family Fun Day The Rotaract District Committee (RDC), with the support of DCHR Gabe Trias, SDG Ernest Yuyek, and DG Connie Beltran, joined Rotarians and their families in the First District Family Fun Day last August 16, 2009 at the Island Cove Resort in Kawit, Cavite. During the whole-day affair, the RDC had the chance to interact with the district’s Rotarians and their families. Likewise, they were able to hold a simple fund-raising as they sold Rotaract items ( such

as shirts, pins, and mugs) and provided face-painting service to kids. The District Family Fun Day featured different activities for Rotarians and their families to promote family bonding and fellowship. Activities included a fishing tournament for Rotarians, bingo social, and games for the young and young at heart. It was organized by the District Team and the different Rotary Clubs in the

Cavite Area.

For its first run, the club, in partnership with ABS-

CBN, selected the children from the Home of Love Orphanage (Antipolo City) and the Sagip Kabataan Center (Manila). It was a most welcome treat for these children as it was their first visit to the Ocean Park. They enjoyed seeing numerous fish and sea creatures during the guided tour at the Oceanarium. They were also visibly excited as they watched the Mermaid Show and the animal “show-and-tell” led by TV host Kim Atienza (of Matanglawin and Umagang Kay Ganda).

Some of the children’s happy moments with “Santino” and the Rotaractors were shown in an episode of ABS-CBN’s “ M a t a n g l a w i n ” .

RDC Releases DRRE Nomination Guidelines The announcement was made by the DRRE Elections Chairperson, PDRR Oliver L. Alvarez (Rotaract Club of Manila) during the 3rd District Meeting at PSBA, Manila. The guidelines were prepared and signed by the DCHR Gabe Trias and DRR Izel Marie B. Guatno. DRR Izel Guatno challenges the Rotaractors to nominate the best qualified candidate for the DRRE position. position

To give clubs sufficient time to identify and endorse their best possible candidate in leading the Rotaractors, the Rotaract District Committee released the guidelines for the District Rotaract Representative-Elect (DRRE) last September 12, 2009.

The DRRE will be serving in the next Rotary Year. This position is important as the District Rotaract Representative (DRR) serves as a liaison between the Rotaract clubs, the District Rotaract Committee (composed of Rotarians) and Rotary International. The DRR has a wide variety of responsibilities that serve to improve and strengthen the Rotaract program in the district. Under

the supervision of the District Governor and the District Rotaract Chair, the DRR works to improve c om m unic atio n a nd to promote activities and projects of the district. Rotaractors may download copies of the guidelines for their review at the D3810 Rotaract Yahoo Group, and at the rotary3810.org website. The guidelines for elections will be ratified in the next district meeting of the Rotaract Club Presidents and will also be presented to the District Governor.

Speakers Share, Inspire during District Meetings Meetings are never a waste of time for D3810 Rotaractors as Guest Speakers are regularly invited to the monthly District Meeting of Rotaract Clubs as part of the RDC’s Professional and Leadership Development program. Since July, Rotaractors have had the opportunity to learn about different things that can help them in running their clubs effectively. During the first District Meeting organized by RAC Sta. Isabel College (sponsored by RC Bagumbayan), Rotaractors learned through the District’s very own Webmaster, DCHR Gabe Trias, the value of having their own

website. For the second district meeting organized by RAC Bacoor (sponsored by RC Bacoor), Ms. Maria Elena Jacinto, an English faculty at the ISHRM, talked about journalism and how Rotaract Clubs can create effective newsletters. The third district meeting, organized by RAC Manila (sponsored by RC Manila) and RAC University District-Manila (sponsored by RC University District-Manila), featured youth le a der an d f ou nd er of OneTama Movement, Mr. Boyet Dy. He shared how

young people can create a big impact in their community service programs through collective action, creativity, and commitment. Succeeding district meetings will focus on public relations, fund-raising, and other helpful topics for Rotaractors.

District Celebrates OKTOBERFEST 2009

October 9, 2009 was a great evening for the Rotaractors who joined the celebration of the District’s OKTOBERFEST 2009, which was held at the Bellagio Square, Jorge Bocobo Street, Malate, Manila. The event was hosted by the Rotary Club of Paco (led by Pres. Mon Yupangco), in cooperation with the City of Manila (led by Mayor Alfredo Lim). The OKTOBERFEST provided Rotaractors an opportunity to engage in fellowship with other Rotaractors and Rotarians. Everyone had a wonderful time as

different bands performed popular songs that made everyone, young and old, groove and sing along. It was enjoyable to see the Rotaractors show the Rotarians some of the latest dance steps. Not to be outdone, the Rotarians also demonstrated some of their fun dance moves and unique ways of having a good time. PP Gilbert Yupangco (RC Paco) hosted the games during the OKTOBERFEST. Meanwhile, the Rotaract Club of PSBA-Manila and the Rotaract Club of Paco showed off their

dancing skills as part of the intermission. One of the evening’s surprises is the tribute to our lovely District Governor Connie Beltran, who celebrated her birthday last Oct. 6. The District Team, together with the Visionary Presidents, prepared a song, flowers, and cake for the lady governor. The Rotaractors also joined the tribute by giving her a customized Rotaract Cake. With the success of this year’s celebration, everyone will definitely look forward to next year’s Oktoberfest.
