Women are often ostracized for reasons of sexuality and desire (like how Hester must wear a scarlet ‘A’ after she has committed a sexual sin). Do you think it is true that women are ostracized because of desire? Do you think this attire is appropriate to curb sexual desire? Why or why not? Is there appropriate attire for this? Why do you think women are required to curb the desire or men and not the other way around?
